    Didn't Peter lie 3 times?

He got the Keys of the Kingdom.

Didn't King David lie, f**k around, knock some poor girl up, have her hubby killed? Not to mention disobeying about the census and getting 10s of 1000s of innocent people killed when he wouldn't own up to his punishment?

He got to be ancestor of the Messiah and rule as King for decades more. (But the baby was put to death die of natural causes.)

That divine justice is some kinda justice. Go figure.

Yes we all lie from time to time. I understand the other views here on this story, but I believe the Bible. I believe that it is God's word to us. So my reasoning on this story is this:

These people were living for God and Annias and Sapphira were supposedly part of this but in their heart they were not. The idea was to share with God's people for the development of a church. Greed took them over and they wanted to be more than just a regular person within this "church". They were self pleasing. While we all have this in us at times, how many of us have actually done this in the face of God? Now I am different than most of you, I have never been a JW and never believed their lies. So some of you may think that you have lied to God's org or something of that nature, but what have you kept from God? The org is not God's org!

That is what I get from this story, we do lie to each other, we do hide things from each other, but Annias and Sapphira were lying to God in their hearts, not to Peter or the others. The people would never know (well maybe but probably not) but the group did this for God and Annias and Sapphria knew that it was for God.

Take it or leave it, but that is how I see it.

Not very Christlike killing them though.

Aroq: I have a deep respect for God's word too. However, the meaning of, "Do not tell a lie", does come through in this passage. The justification for killing them doesn't.

    I wished there was a better understanding/meaning.

This is meant to be funny. I recall someone laughing about this scripture. The person said it was written to be used for stewardship Sundays.

Geez, it's just a story. The Book of Acts was the 1st century equivalent of 'News of The World' - lots of fun to read; but you can't take it seriously...

Think about Peter's role. This is the man who denied Christ three times yet was forgiven. He denied Christ despite knowiing that Christ was the Messiah or so the gospels put the words in his mouth. Despite all the forgiveness from Jesus of Nazareth, he is part of the death of A and S. Jesus forgives but Peter cannot. Peter also should have special powers in Acts b/c Christ is in Heaven.

Yes, and Peter could also resurrect. It sure is a puzzle.
