I enjoyed Mongol.
Not sure Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is 'unheard of' but I enjoyed the Swedish Trilogy, although the 'Hollywood version' is very good and actually closer to the book.
In Bruges is a classic surely :-)

Sir82, I was going to put A Boy And His Dog, but I thought no one else would like it. I love those dystopian movies, Omega Man, Soylent Green (Soylent Green is People!). , etc.
Did you see The Book of Elah? I was watching it and thinking it reminded me of A Boy And His Dog, when I noticed a poster for it on the wall of the movie theater scene, it's great they referenced it.
A few more I thought of: After Hours (from the Eighties)
A classic French Movie, Jeanne De Floret, and its sequel, Mannon of The Spring.

A wonderful job was done with the dark foreboding atmosphere and the bone-chilling sound of the tripods. I think this version (with Tom Cruise) is way underrated.
