Ahhh, Buffy....Your post was one of the sad realities of now-grown people who were at one time children of devoted JWs.
Yes, it's true....All of my friends who are minimally active or even totally inactive are subject to guilt trips like there's no tomorrow.
Sadly, many parents find it difficult to allow their children to live their own lives.
I have had to remind my friends that their parents chose to live the JW lifestyle...and that it is their choice how they want to live their lives.
Unfortunately, the dependence many members have upon the organization is mirrored in family relationships, even when the child has become a full-grown adult. They are expected not to do ANYTHING that the parents would find even slightly displeasing, for fear they will disappoint the parent.
My own sister struggles with this issue, MUCH more than I do, but she is also the oldest and the family dynamics are that the oldest child often bears the brunt of guilt trips, expectations etc. Myself, (as most of you who know me already know, LOL) I tell my parents to not get involved in my life on that level at all.....
I wish more would have the courage to create an adult relationship with their parents instead of still being children even though full-grown.....
Sigh....
