I was only nine year old when I got dunked. That was back in 1955. Really didn't want to get baptized, but my JW mother insisted. But back in those days a number of young kids got dunked. One kid in our congregation was only six when he took the plunge.

16 years old. Being given only enough information to reach the desired conclusion of the one supplying the information is criminal. When information is withheld, an informed decision cannot be made. It's the same as lying.

I would argue that there's a bad faith aspect to the promises made by the Society, such as would invalidate any baptism, of a child or a teen. Basically, the Society is not interested in allowing people to inspect their mistakes and past teachings, and tells them not to listen to contrary information, especially from others who were a part of the religion at one time. As long as someone lives at home, his believing parents will pressure him not to look at that information as well, and to go along with their beliefs or else. So the representation of the religion is deceptive towards any born-in who gets baptized while living at home.

My uber Dub mom would always mentions how "the worldly religions" baptize their kids as infants and how silly that is, but can a 9, 10, or 11 year old sign a contract or lease or support themselves, Dubs are no different than the "wicked worldly folks" just too damn blind to see it, or, they just make believe they don't see it.

15 years old I signed my life away. I remember a CO giving a talk in the hall and he said to the parents "If they know right from wrong, then they can justly die at armageddon."

I was scared for my siblings and for myself. I figured if I could get through and make a defence for my non baptised siblings, it was a start. A sister in the hall, an old sister with a big family, son in bethel etc had told me that for sure Armageddon was going to happen that year, she winked as she told me it. She said if not that exact calendar year, then VERY soon after. That was the end of 1994 and I got baptised April 95. I was totally convinced she knew something I didn't.

    She did not.
