    Hello, everyone.

I somehow managed to endure a Circuit Assembly this past weekend. The two positives that came out of it are:
    1) I can easily beat any test of endurance and
    2) I was able to obtain some incredulous statements made during the presentations

For the record, I didn't run into collegegirl, badwillie, or DIM. :o)

I'll keep this simple (at least for now)...

First, George Thompson (District Overseer) has to be one of THE most monotone speakers I have EVER heard. His talks are more like stories, as if he were sitting across from you at the dinner table. Every now and then he would throw in a so-called funny line and the audience would bust out in laughter like the guy was Chris Rock or somebody. I didn't laugh.

Anyhow, he gave the sandwich slice talks after the Sunday intermission (meaning he gave the first talk after lunch and the concluding talk, while the C.O. gave the middle talk).
In his first talk he mentioned how the Catholic church is in shambles because of the pedophile issue. He mentioned how their cover-ups are costing the church money and members. Naturally, nothing was mentioned about the JW pedophile situation.

Here's the incredulous part: In the concluding talk he quoted from the Catholic Encyclopedia. He said that they say this about JW's: JW's are the most God fearing people on earth.
He said that was wonderful commendation from such a respectable source.

Huh? On the one hand, the Catholic Church are made up of pedophiles.
On the other hand they are a respctable source.

    Sigh...

There are more gems that came out of this assembly but my notes are at home. I just happen to remember this point the most.

First of all may I commend you for managing to stomach a circuit assembly, have you recovered yet?! Good grief, it used to be hard enough sitting through the programme when I was enthusiastic, I can only imagine what a strain it must be to listen to sit through such deceit, false sentiments and utter nonsense.

I remember so well the 'funny lines' that were usually not funny at all yet everyone felt they were expected to laugh as though it was the most hilarious thing ever said. So false and it only usually served to inflate the ego of the speaker.

Liked your observation about the Catholic Church too, amazing how they can pick and choose their quotes, always to their benefit of course. I just wonder how many in the audience squirmed in their seats at the mention of the paedophile issue, pot calling the kettle black if you ask me.

Looking forward to reading some more of your gems if you get the chance to post them.

No, the conventions are still 3 days. Good point, Mister Biggs, the Catholic is quoted as a supporter of JWs at the same time JWs label them as a group of pedophiles. Someone posted the programme here on JWD.

The speakers are so tied to the manuscript talks that there is no personality or pizzazz any more. If a speaker talks on the cuff, he better be on the GB or they will have to pay for it. I like Venice's idea about playing BS Bingo. I have my cards ready.

I like the part when we cant sit down after the song
until they tell us to becuase of announcements.

I sit down right after the song anyway assuming I stood up to sing in the first place. I can't even think of any other occasion where I had to be directed when to stand up and when to sit down, even in school. It's like a game of Simon Says.

Good point MikeMusto. Always seemed a little strange to me, bit like being a kid at school again. I could never work out why they did this, did they honestly think it would make people listen or concentrate any more if they were made to stand up. I remember being stared at when I had a sleeping toddler in my lap which meant I couldnt stand up, I was made to feel very uncomfortable - why arent you struggling to stand up, you disrespectful woman, the old doddery and infirmfaithful ones are making the effort, so should you.

I suppose the only good thing was the opportunity to stretch your legs before another session that would go on .. and on.. and on.. zzzz

    Hello, respondents! :o)
    I'll post my notes tomorrow.

In addition to the lonnnnng program, my Book Study also had the privilege of cleaning the bathrooms after the Sunday session.
Too bad I selfishly didn't show up for duty and let the next person enjoy the "privilege" of cleaning the johns! LOL!

This was the 1st convention where I didn't contribute one penny! Hopefully, this was my last circuit assembly.

Okay, here's another point I recall without my notes:

The guy comes out and does the announcement as to where we stand financially. He mentioned that we are in a deficit (as always) but that he knows that we (the audience) will do what we can to fix it. He mentioned that, for as long as the 20-something years he's been handling the financial announcements, our circuit has never ended the assembly with a deficit. He said he had confidence in us and to "make those donations".
