Good theory by the way Terry , its true that sexual repression was quite high during Russell's time (late Victorian era),
it didn't loosen up until the roaring 20's after his death.
Some men take on the unassailable right to make themselves greater than just being common among men,

If Russell had traits of Asperger's syndrome, he wouldn't (necessarily have to) sublimate or repress his sexuality, Victorian era or any other era. This expressive disorder was not clinically "recognized" in Freud's era so Freud's speculations about human motivation and sexual drive do not "fit" all humans - and in particular those who appear "possessed" and driven to establish their heterodox views. Of course, my hunch that Russell was driven by non-sexual urges is every bit as speculative as Freud's and I make no pretence that my hunch can be "proven" - it cannot. But it helps illustrate how "ideas" drive discoveries and color conclusions. Why is every powerfully driven man ( or woman) who has more passion for the promotion and establishment of ideas/beliefs than for marital intimacy deemed to be in some way driven by repressed sexual urges and impulses? It makes for interesting copy I must admit , but little else that can be verified.

The answer is in the headlines of newspapers, in the history books, in the prisons and asylums.
The strongest compulsion is sex and it is atavistic, Darwinian as an imperative.
This DRIVE can be channeled and it has been.
When it is harnessed, art, music, literature pour out.
Otherwise, it is merely the fuel of wretched excess if not firmly anchored by societal and religious permissions (i.e. marriage.)
Three of my 7 kids have Asperger's. None of them has a sex drive. Until my mid 20's neither did I and only faintly then.
