Charis (Grace) suggests the kindness of a superior to an inferior. Since God is the bestower of Grace, it is undeserved kindness. Some lexicographers so define it. The NWT follows that trail. Do you merit God's grace? On what basis would you? This is one place where the NWT follows someone other than Vine, though the New Testament translation (Christian Greek Scriptures my eye!) is largely dependent of Vine's word studies.
