Elder Concerned and Elder Faithful came by last night, to address some of my concerns/statements as to why I haven't been at the meetings. We talked for and hour and a half. I told them I didn't believe that it was God's Spirit directed organization, I said I didn't believe that only 144,000 were going to heaven, I told them one did not have to be a JW to get saved, and they still want to come back and talk to me again. Wouldn't you think that would be enough to get them to let you leave?

Anyway it reminded me of the song Hotel California (great song) where it says "you can check out anytime you like, but you can't never leave". I'm beginning to think it's like the Mafia, they won't let you just go.

"The reward for conformity was that everyone liked you except yourself."

Well, you've said the magic words, that you don't believe in the F&DS any more, so I'd guess that their next visit will be in the way of forming a judicial committee to hear an accusation of apostasy against you.

And yes, it's a lot like the Hotel California. Isn't it interesting that that song was reputed to have been written about a Satanic church, and yet we can see the parallels to the JW's? Though, personally, I think that bit about the Satanic church is an urban legend - I'm more inclined to see it as being about the world of show business.

    It's about drug addiction.

Yup it is pretty ironic especially when you consider that the REAL "Hotel Califonia" that inspired the song is in a sleepy little Mexican town of Todos Santos at the tip of Baja California. [8>]

    Rita,
You've gotta let me know what I can do to help. I will be there, just let me know.

I still stick by my advice to tell them you don't want to talk about it--you're "not ready". Then fade--FAST!!!! This will at least allow your kids a chance to keep some of their 'friends' while they transition out.

    that inspired the song

Hotel California is a metaphor for cocaine addiction. See "You can check out any time you like but you can never leave." This comes from the published comments of Glenn Frey, one of the coauthors.

    Further, from BBC News online:

    Article "'Hotel California' for Sale":
"A Mexican hotel which is rumoured to be the inspiration behind The Eagles' hit song Hotel California is up for sale for $1m.
    ...
But the band deny they ever set foot in the hotel, and insist they song was about surrealism and not property.

Instead, they say the 1976 track reflects the cocaine-fuelled Los Angeles rock scene of the time. "

OK, Xander, I'll buy the cocaine theory. It makes sense.
