I would personally steer clear of the Old testament.boring, depressing and not relevant to me.

Hi suavojr, Where would your wife like to start reading the Bible? I would recommend purchasing a study Bible such as a NIV or NKJ Bible instead of the NWT and starting in MT in the NT, so that you can see how Jesus Christ felt about how the Pharisees and Sadducees victimized the Jews with BITE control techniques and to decide to follow God's two greatist commandments in Mt 22:37-40. Emphasize to your wife that God's greatist commandment states that you should love God with "ALL" your mind, heart, and soul. It doesn't say to an organization nor that you should be part of an organization.

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

    Robert

Working out a new way to study would be helpful. Read a little about the context of the book and keep that in mind when reading the instructions (especially Paul's admonitions to the congregations. What was happening in the congregations at the time?). I think John, Romans, or Hebrews would be a good start. Open ended questions are good. Ask about modern-day examples to relate.

Please....trust me..... it doesn't take long, do the NT books of the apostles MMLJA.

Read them as you would read any book, not as individual verses like WT have you do. Watch the bible transform in front of your eyes into a very different book. Watch the charachters become very different to the people you were told they were.

Best way to make a christian an atheist, make them read the bible. It worked a treat with me! The NT is so far removed from the principles and actions of Watchtower and mot religions, it is impossible to read it and not repeatedly say out lous "oh my goodness, we have a problem here!"

P.s. Poor 19yr old kid... are they ok ?

THanks everyone! I will apply the good advise.

Snare: The young 19 year old kid is okay for right now, but the pressure at home was so much that he left the house with no clothes, no cell phone, $1,300 USD (don't know if in cash) stopped going to high school, and has been sleeping in a friends house living room. I want you to know that this kid has never been in any type of problems, EVER. and the elders have the nerve to look down on him and make the parents feel like dirt. My blood boils when I think of this .

The mom is my wife's best friend and it hurts my heart when I see how the WT leaders care more about punishing and finding fault instead of uniting with love.

Good points from everyone here. If you want to wake here up to TTATT, how about suggesting that you go through doctrines unique to Jehovah's Witnesses and prove them scripturally. Say: "I think we think we know our Bible pretty well. If that's the case, we can prove all our doctrines scripturally without the use of the any WT publications. So, let's do that. Let's pretend we have to defend our beliefs to a householder."

You might even suggest that each week, for the WT study, that you go through each of the cited scriptures and read them in context to see if they really say what the WT says they say. You could start with this past weekend's WT that cites Phil 3:15,16. Then read that in context (esp. verses 13,14) to see what Paul was really saying. Then, the best thing to do would be to actually look up the scripture in the indexes (use the WT Library, but use the indexes) to see every place the verse(s) are cited and read what the WT has to say about the verse. Does it match what the Bible says? I can tell you that this is an eye-opening exercise. This is one way that I learned TTATT.

Oh, and really important: keep a notebook together of topics discussed and verses involved. It's easy to forget things. The WT may say use a scripture that will make her go, 'see, this proves it', but you'll have other verses that say otherwise.

The hard part will be to get past the "in a sense", "evidently", "logically, then" wiggle words that has been used for decades.

Read Galatians in its entirety. Will immediately erase all the stupid guilt.

Matt Chapter 1 introduces problems from he get go..... It is the lineage of Jesus to David, proving he is the Messiah as prophesied.

The problem? It is the lineage of Joseph, Joseph being of no relation to Jesus at all......

    Have fun!
