FCC regulations that stood since 1934 (telecommunications act) were undone, making it so only 6 mega-corps control ALL media. Used to be no single owner could hold more than one type of media outfit (radio, TV, newspaper, etc). I remember it being a really big deal that a local radio and TV stations had the same call-sign, but they had a grandfather clause in effect. No other station around could do it because it was illegal at that point. After 1990s deregulation, Rupert Murdoch became a US citizen and started snapping up small TV stations (and other media outfits, including Roger Eberts employer, Chicago-Sun Times) around the country and they all became Fox affiliates. Disney bought ABC and so on.

Jimmy Carter is a highly educated ("After serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific U.S. Submarine Fleets, Jimmy Carter attended graduate school at Union College, majoring in reactor technology and nuclear physics.") man who got patsied by a bunch rich thugs, both inside and outside the USA. Think of all the propaganda that circulated back then, bringing up the fact, over and over again, that he was merely a "peanut farmer".

Your view of Richard Nixon is wacked. Such anomosity towards national leaders. I recall a class Carter moment-the first debate was on TV at Carter NJ HQ. His accent annoyed me but then I believe Carter would be annoyed by my accent. Out of nowhere, I hear a question and think I hear about nuclear annihilation and Amy Carter telling him. He quoted a rude kid in a presidential debate! People were not happy in that room.
In fairness to Amy, her parents were to blame.

I tell you what, when I hear an old southern white man affirming that he believes women are equal to men, and should not be subjugated and regarded as property to be owned, bought and sold, used, abused, demeaned and diminished simply because of gender - I have hope for this world.

Jimmy Carter, is one president who was not owned" and did not play by the political rules. The other presidents dispise him for that. Just look at the picture when they were all together. he was standing off by himself.
Jimmy carter was a man who refused to play politics when it was against his concience.
I didn't vote for him, I think he was a awfull president, but I think he is a very good man.
