ILove TTAT - I understand exactly your point. People die and that is sad, but their death supports the inevitability that what we were taught was al lie -Period end of discussion.

In 1984 discernment was no longer a criteria and babies started to be included in the generation, meaning that the generation were once again between 70 and 80.

"If Jesus used "generation" in that sense and we apply it to 1914, then the babies of that generation are now 70 years old or older. And others alive in 1914 are in their 80's or 90's, a few even having reached a hundred. There are still many millions of that generation alive." Watchtower 1984 May 15 p.5
In 1988 an expert was used to prove a generation is 75 years. A baby born in 1914 would be 75 in 1989, leading the reader to the conclusion that the end was imminent.
"J. A. Bengel states in his New Testament Word Studies: "The Hebrews . . . reckon seventy-five years as one generation, and the words, shall not pass away, intimate that the greater part of that generation [of Jesus' day] indeed, but not the whole of it, should have passed away before all should be fulfilled." This became true by the year 70 C.E. when Jerusalem was destroyed.

Likewise today, most of the generation of 1914 has passed away. However, there are still millions on earth who were born in that year or prior to it. And although their numbers are dwindling, Jesus' words will come true, "this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened." This is yet another reason for believing that Jehovah's thieflike day is imminent." Watchtower 1988 Apr 8 p.14

Blondie, I remember when they changed this. I was quite disappointed. This should have been an early wake up call. Too bad I wasted another two decades after this new light.

    NewYork44m & Blondie,

I remember this too... I was like, "Hey, How can they just change this like that?!"

Next thing I say is, "Well, no one knows the day and the hour, I will have more time to help people learn the truth"

That is how cognitive dissonance & propaganda work.

    Very well......

The WTBS is a finely tuned machine that knows what it is doing.

Side point: It is almost literally a miracle that these people live another day: statistically they have 99.9999999%+ probability of dying at any one day (The 5 people still alive). BTW the probability is accurate... yes, 7 nines after the 99...

Misao Okawa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misao_Okawa) needs only 24 more days and she will be the second oldest verified Japanese person ever... The 9th oldest verified person ever...

So we'll see in 24 days... I hope she makes it!! =)

Somewhere I had read that number of people alive in 2014 and to be 100 years old is between 280,000-350,000 because many countries did not collect statistics or had not done before 1945, therefore the numbers can be overestimated. This is certainly true for China, India, Russia, and even in Latin America. WT used to say that generation of 1914 will see the end. People of this generation are in almost at the end will disappear in the next 10-15 years. All my grandparents were of that generation. My grandpa fought in WWI. I would not be surprised if WT will put the generation to decades later like anointed calling closed in 1935 etc giving them another decades of comfortable prediction. There is a huge demographic of people born during prosperous roaring 20s and they can be here till 2050.

IMO, C.T. Russell started a group with good intentions in mind, as with many others. He even sacrificed his own wealth to finance it. He truly wanted a "pure Christianity", at least pure as how he understands it. He was initially against predictions, but was eventually coaxed into it, as his fame, his followers (and his ego) grew. Typical human fallibility. As I remember, Raymond Franz discussed this as well in his book, one of the tragic effects of starting a split group from Christianity is that it eventually disintegrates into shit as the old one from whence it came from did, and this is true for many other denominations of Protestantism. (that is why he didn't start a new one to join the party when he got expelled from WTS) Everyone believes his own version of the truth as "The Truth", and most often it ruins lives for good, despite the purest intentions to do otherwise.

I envy those who truly believes something higher than men, and actually lives and dies without actually paying attention to all these mess. I understand why so many starts losing faith because all of this looks like a joke (that is not even funny).

kalk , the generation born in the 20s is now 90 years old. as one poster said, they will pick a new starting date. (19 34-35 they kind of disowned that because the nixed the idea the anointed class was then FULL. and

if we are not talking veterans here, it does not fit, because wt is talking 'anointed', draft resisters in internment camps, even executed.

Yeah, my in laws parents were born in the 1920's. WT can play with a some changes for the last generation and postpone it from 1914 to 1929 or 1935. But I would guess they will go for huge leap, maybe generation of 1948 related to creation of state of Israel. Russell used to teach until his death that the last generation started in 1799 and the presence was in 1874. So he was unto that nonsense 117 years after the fact. The last war of the French Revolutionary wars died around 1890. Russell was 26 years late and it was Rutherford that moved it from 1799 to 1914. I do not think the teaching of the generation(s) will not change before 2034.
