    Greetings:

On the back of the Memorial invitation is a box containing a strange pattern that is edged by three small boxes that each hold three small black squares within. Beneath the pattern is a series of numbers and letters.

    How is this code scanned?

    Thanks!

    Hi CC,

That is called a QR code. They can be scanned with a smartphone camera using a QR code scanning app.

Many thanks, WF, Incog, and RVW!

WOW! The Society is keeping up with the celestial chariot of technology. My very old-fashioned telephone with 25-foot cord and large push buttons is definitely not smart, but I like unintelligent oldfangled.

    Best.

Ah . . . four little boxes, one tiny and easily missed by me, the uninformed. Well, till now.

    Thanks again.

Wouldn't it be fun to sticker over them with our own QR code?

Ah, rebel8! I see that is doable for a number of apps -- the possibilities . . .

    THANKS!

Well you know, one could scan color copies with a few "edits" and redistribute...

I had my smart phone for weeks before I discovered the QR code thingy. I now have an "app" (my first) which is Starbucks. I finished off my balance before I left for Pakistan and there is NO Starbucks in this country(!) so I can't see if it will work here to get the two free coffees that I 'earned' through my addiction.
