    BA:

Thanks for the article "Examining Apocalyptic Convictions". This particularly interested me because the only reason I became interested in the JW religion as a young adult was because I had an interest in end-time prophecy and the JWs made themselves out to have all the answers and professed to know things all the other main-stream religions did not know.

In a nutshell the article explains that the JW religion's teachings are nothing new but simply borrowed from older religions and belief systems. I had read bits and pieces about this elsewhere in the past but you very nicely put everything all in one place.

In other words: the JWs is just an old story dressed up in a new outfit.

Even though it is no comfort that I wasted too much time in that religion, I am glad this mistake is behind me.

Remember, how "Read the Bible Daily" were the words found at the the top of one of one of the factory buildings only to be painted over and replaced with jw.org.

Seriously?? That's news to me. Wow. I guess it could be argued that jw.org does have a Bible [of sorts] on the site, but...one would think that words like 'Read the Bible Daily' would be pretty immutable based on the supposed 'preaching the good news' thing and all... At most one would think they could just add jw.org somewhere below it or something...huh. Was there a thread about this when it happened? I shall have to look into it.

Great name for your article, Barbara! So verrrrry well written, and entertaining!

This little piece is what stood out to me:

"Ciro Aulicino, a senior staff member in the Writing Department told me in 1991 that a press-pass to access the UN building and events would be provided to any publishing company that requested one and that’s how he obtained his. Ten years later, I learned what Ciro had wasn’t just a press-pass it included NGO status along with many perks provided by the UN."

Quite a ‘sly guy’…. ( A guy that is very very sly. So sly to the point where your jaw drops when he does his cunningactions. Cunning: someone that’s tricky, devious, sly or shady)

Somehow, the more I read and hear about the Watch Tower/ Watchtower/ Zion's Watchtower/ Jehovah's witnesses/Jehovah's Witnesses/The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society/ the more and more I realize how cunning and sly they are.

Haha! and I looooooovvvve the "jw.borg!" Sooooo apropos!

(great pic Outlaw! I will definitely save & share this ;-)

Very interesting article Barbara, thank you.

I just want to mention that the sign "Read God's Word The Holy Bible Daily" was on the 117 Adams Street building, Sands Street side and it was painted over along with the other signs on the Adams Street complex because the society sold it. The name JW.ORG was not painted on it.

    I just realized...

...it's odd that people failed to make the connection between JWs and the Watchtower Society, 'specially since JWs offer the Watchtower magazine when they call on them.

I remember when I started going door-to-door we'd meet people that would ask " Are you from Watchtower"?

It is strange to think that there are people who do not know the wts is operated by witnesses.

The situation Barbara mentioned about in Israel shows how corrupt and decietful the gb are who will lie all the time to get their way.

Barbara, I'd love to read the Turkey story when you get to writing and posting it! I liked the 'footsie' story too

Yes, I wouldn't have remembered the Mexico 'Cultural Society' thing had it not been for Ray's book.

Well, that clears it up considerably. It would be kind of weird otherwise.
