There was a guy in his early 20's that gave the prayer for the bread or wine at my Memorial (I just do not remember which one, wine or bread?) He does not look like elder material at all. If MS can't give the prayer at the Memorial, then he must be an elder by now.

think of the congregating of a small group of special pioneers, all sisters, with hankies waiting on their head, waiting to get at that wine, after the "do" was over.

Is he related to anyone important?

Yes - I was asked as an MS despite there being other elders. Some congregations like to rotate things around a bit. Or maybe some elders just "delegate" more.

Yes. MSs prayed over both symbols here. And those passing the symbols were neither elders nor MSs.

MS give prayers at meetings...why not the memorial. The only problem is using a non-anointed elder when a capable anointed elder is present to give the talk.

Even non-MS/Elders can give prayers at meetings. There is no requirement that the brother giving the prayer have a position.

However, the term often used "qualified brother" implies a position within the congregation.

this is how they groom them to be elder material.
