Dear Reader, Millions of Americans believe prayer works. Yet the mainstream media tends to avoid the subject altogether. But our Mind Health Report team at Newsmax Health wanted answers to questions like these: To this end, the team went out to the scientific and medical community to learn the potential benefits of prayer — and what they found both surprised and excited all of us here at The Mind Health Report. Yes, I agree. Meditation gives the same benefits, sans the religious angle. It's my preference to meditate, as I am an atheist.
Whatever gets you through the night, is all right, with me. ~ John Lennon
Are you a 'believer', and if so, to whom do you pray? Just curious.

I do not believe that a diety listens to human prayer.
However I have long believed that there is benefit to the person who sincerely participates in prayer. But the benefit is not so much in the words/messages conveyed to their god who may or may not respond to the petitioner's liking, rather, it's more the shift of consciousness. That mindful, meditative process provides healthful benefit to the person praying.
As does meditation.
Prayer vs meditation. I believe they can have the same exact result.

Does 'God' really listen to the mumbled prayers of millions of people? Some praying for a new fancy car or for their favorite football team to win. There is no one 'listening' but a subtle shift in consciousness explains the perceived benefits. Same as meditating. But if a person needs to believe that a deity is sitting up in 'Heaven' listening to everyone's prayers, who am I to criticize??? Whatever helps people feel better is OK with me.

Subject is not about whether God will answer your prayer or not. Its all about how a prayerful disposition or meditation helps your brain and the body as a whole. This shows the designer of the body is one God (no matter in what form or name you conceive or call Him). Prayer and meditation reveals your trust in God, which means you seek harmony with God. Harmony means good health—pysical, mental, emotional .... Article does not endorse any religion or any specific belief, it only says prayer and meditation helps.
It indirectly proves that God views all religions as one, or impartially--none is better than the other!

Just so my comment is not furrther misconstrued, I wish to clarify.
Praryer and meditation are two different things. I am an ATHEIST .... I meditate to relax, lower my blood pressure, to take care of my HEALTH.
I only compared the benefits of meditation to the beneifts that prayer can have on your health. There is no creator (as far as I'm concerned, but I'm not like other atheists, and have no need to force you to agree), and it has NOTHING to do with god.
Thank you.

" Subject is not about whether God will answer your prayer or not. Its all about how a prayerful disposition or meditation helps your brain and the body as a whole."
Good point. I would add that IMO, meditation is better. Think of every "prayer" ever answered for you. If it was "answered" it was because YOU put forth effort. Of course there are coincidences that many ascribe to prayers being answered. Still, meditation teaches you to focus your thoughts. Then you put forth effort as opposed to " Wating on [ insert deity here]."
If there is a Creator, isn't it locigal to assume that you should use the life and power that you have been given? I have yet to read any scripture from any "holy" book that advocates doing nothing and expecting everything is a path to spirituality. The Bible does not even advocate doing nothing, although some like to take a certain scripture out of context and say it does. That path leads to spiritual stagnation.
