A Spiritual Experience

    Hi All,

As I was sitting in church listening to the preacher trying to get all to accept Christ as our savior, amen, praise the Lord and all that Christain talk, I didn't feel any spiritual response at all.

This is what gives me a feeling of closeness with God, nature or whatever.

I was visiting my daughter who lives out in the country, about a mile back in the woods. I was sitting on the porch and there was a nice cool breeze blowing and the trees were moving with the breeze. My wife was in the yard with her granddaughter, she was walking with her, holding her hand(she is 14 months old)and they were looking in the patches of clover for a four leaf clover. You could see the love and happiness they both felt as she talked to her and heard the giggles from Emily. This type of experience is what gives me a sense of what life is about. It was a spiritual experience for me. Religion just doesn't give me a sense of closeness with life.

That was a beautiful experience. I feel the same way mostly. It is good that you know how to feed your soul. It is interesting how different people can see the world. Thanks for sharing that experience

How true, undecided. My daughter and her family live up in the mountains about 30 miles away. When I go up there and get away from the city and play with my grandsons, 10 months and 3 years old, the feelings of peace and serenity are indescribable.

I am happy for you that you are experiencing the sheer joy of grandchildren.

    Ken,

I feel the same way you do. I been to quite a few different churches since leaving the JW's and not so much as a little spiritual experience.
But regularly go for long hikes and feel the hand of God. We don't need organized religion.

I've been researching shamanism and have learned alot about certain plants that are psycoactive and have used these to enhance my communing with nature.
The sacred mushroom is a plant that has been used by man for thousands of years with good effect and I recommend its use for spiritual enlightenment. While illegal to have you can purchace the spores thru the mail(perfectly legal in most states) and culture your own. I highly recommend this, as these plants have a lot they can teach us about love and concern for our enviroment. The experience is very spiritual, and has lasting good for the user. I would recommend that one learn about them first before embarking on a Trip.

Join the Watchtower or you will die.
Only Jehovah's Witnesses have the TRUTH all other religions EVIL and from the Devil.
You must beleive the Watchtower or you're going to die a painful death forever, isn't that really GOOD NEWS?

I have been laying in bed this morning with my two year old granddaughter. Watching cartoons, cuddling, laughing....

flashback to when I was that age, being dragged from door to door on a Saturday morning. I recall once watching cartoons that were on in a house, while my mother was talking to a sheep like one. I got properly chastised in the car, that it looked like I was not enjoying the service, and to never let my eyes wander again.

This Saturday morning compared to that Saturday morning in a spiritual experience?

    Ha!

I really do think this is what God is all about.

I feel very much the same way when spending time with my children. It's amazing how peaceful experiences that way can be.

Nature does it for me the best too. I sometimes use some green smoke to help. Choir music, fractals, and mandalas also do it at other times. But nature is best - trees, grass, flowers, sunsets etc.

The mushroom thing sounds interesting. Michael harner's book way of the shaman is supposed to be the best, all around. Some drumming mp3's can be found on audiogalaxy.

    Hi Ken,

That was a nice experience. I agree that religion does nothing for you, even in the general sense. But what certain writings may do is describe those rare moments that we have, though of course the real thing is much better than the description. To me what's beautiful is that there are people out there who has a definite sense of that closeness to life with total strangers, but of course to them they are not strangers. I don't think we have to over intellectualize it, but I think aside from the fact that it is a pleasant feeling, what that feeling is is very much along the lines of being one with others, whether it be your family members or someone else.

I agree, besides, church isn't the place to be preaching salvation. What did the first christians do at their "meetings"? They praised God and gave sermons meant to encourage NOT preach "Are ya saved yet" sermons.

I sense a closeness to God when I'm with my kids too. I imagine the love I have for them, and then, how much more God loves us.
