Live your life to the fullest and try to put the past behind you.

If only it were that simple - especially the put-it-behind-you part.

    It's still good advice.

Well I think that will come in time for many. People have to go through the anger and grieving stages before the calm settles in.

It is a simple concept but hard to execute. There is a place for righteous anger. I would also guess that we have had diverse experience with the WT. Personally, I left more than four decades ago. I've lived my life. The anger is important. It is a human emotion. I know in my soul that I deserved far better than the Witnesses. I see people acting as slaves going door to door. They presume they know more than the householder. Someone has to hold the WT accountable. It is possible to have a good, rewarding life and to have justified anger against the WTBTS.

Philip Zimbardo suggests several techniques in his book "The Time Paradox". Using his suggestions, I have been able to set aside the worst of my past and dwell on positive traditions instead. It has helped.

Also helpful is to practice some mindfulness meditation techniques that connects me with the present, extending my pleasure in the moment.

As for putting the whole Witness thing behind me, easier said than done. There's a dear old gentleman who has been calling nearly daily now that he realizes his little buddy isn't coming to meetings any more. I dreamed last night that I had a confrontation with the old guy in a coffee shop, holding his hand and speaking from my heart. Probably never gonna happen.

Wherever the mind is, there we are also.

Good advice minimus Controlling one's actions and feelings is difficult and takes practise, but is not impossible to achieve. Controlling another's actions and feelings towards you are more difficult.

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

I agree that many of us go through different stages to recovery. Ultimately, we don't want to get stuck in the past and never find ourselves the life that we have now.

    Mim,

Hmm. I never thought of that. Thanks.

The fact that you and I (both two grumpy old men) still post on this board suggests that forgetting the past is harder that most people think.

But in any event we have moved on and lead successful lives, but there is that little thing that still draws us back to our past. I have made peace with that little thing - how about you?

Who wrote: "Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat"? May be that applies here.
