Flying High Now - your Dr makes me laugh! I'm guessing he never lived there! Don't you know that a favorite pasttime in France is to complain. And if there is nothing to complain about (as usually is the case) then something will be invented to complain about!
But they do it with such flair. It's their culture to complain. It makes them happy.
Oh yes and saying the french are happier and healthier than American? It's not saying much.
I would just do it!

Just contemplating: my road trip from here in west Wales to Andorra and back (wandering through France) was about 2000 miles. My car (a Jaguar x type 2.0d) did 58 mpg overall, including 130kph on motorways and some of the scariest mountain roads I have ever driven on.
Maybe I am programmed to be a perpetual 'road-tripper'.
