Gotta love the internet... you can find out the Watchtower deception in minutes. This is an awesome example of cherrypicking:

It was the period before 1914 that was the island in time, when men could believe that progress was changing us as quickly as it was changing our machines. Then World War I tumbled us back into reality.”
The original quote:

See how the quote was taken way out of context, and how the author originally admitted that WWI and the 20th century was no worse than the 13th.
