    Russell's Instructions for his funeral

I desire to be buried in the plot of ground owned by our Society, in the Rosemont United Cemetery, and all the details of arrangements respecting the funeral service I leave in the care of my sister, Mrs. M. M. Land, and her daughters, Alice and May, or such of them as may survive me, with the assistance and advice and cooperation of the brethren, as they may request the same. Instead of an ordinary funeral discourse, I request that they arrange to have a number of the brethren, accustomed to public speaking, make a few remarks each, that the service be very simple and inexpensive and that it be conducted in the Bible House Chapel or any other place that may be considered equally appropriate or more so. (from Watchtower Reprints, 12/1/16)

for those wishing to visit the gravesite:

The area is the North Hills area of Pittsburgh. It is in the "Rosemont United Cemeteries at Allegheny, in the Bethel Family plot, according to his request." (Jehovah's Witnesses In The Divine Purpose, 1959, p. 62)

    • Christ's Second Coming. Russell believed that Christ had returned invisibly in 1874, and that he had been ruling from the heavens since that date. He predicted that a period known as the "Gentile Times" would end in 1914, and that Christ would take power of Earth's affairs at that time. He interpreted the outbreak of World War I as the beginning of Armageddon, which he viewed to be both a gradual deterioration of civilized society, and a climactic multi-national attack on a restored Israel accompanied by worldwide anarchy.
    • Pyramidology. Following views first taught by Christian writers such as John Taylor , Charles Piazzi Smyth and Joseph Seiss, he believed the Great Pyramid of Giza was built by the Hebrews (associated to the Hyksos) under God’s direction, but to be understood only in our day. He adopted and used Seiss's phrase referring to it as "the Bible in stone". He believed that certain biblical texts, including Isaiah 19:19–20 and others, prophesied a future understanding of the Great Pyramid and adopted the view that the various ascending and descending passages represented the fall of man, the provision of the Mosaic Law, the death of Christ, the exultation of the saints in heaven, etc. Calculations were made using the pattern of an inch per year. Dates such as 1874, 1914, and 1948 were purported to have been found through the study of this monument. [ 51 ]

Thank you to everyone for all of the help - wonderful tips and info and links - I can't thank you enough.

Though my husband was asking questions and wanting me to show him things, it feels like 1 step forward and 2 steps back --- ever since our conversation he has been very distance and hardly speaking to me at all. I have not been pushing the matter - this is how he becomes when he is upset about something, not necesarrily mad at me but just upset in general. And soon he will let me know what he has been thinking...I am still gathering information but I know this will be very hard for him as it has been all he knows for his life and a large number of his family are active jw's. Many decisions in his life were made based on the religion, so I can only imagine the emotional turmoil one would face...it is so sad.

Well, then don't fret until you know what he's thinking. I mean, why wouldn't he be quiet and thoughtful? There's not really a heavier subject to have to think about than the possibility that your whole belief system is lies. I'm glad you're discussing this with your kid present, since it definitely involves him too and he is old enough to think about some of the issues himself.

Although, it may feel like 1 step forward, 2 steps back-- you have planted some hefty seeds, that he will have to obsorb and come to terms with. It's a waiting game now but you have time on your side. Patience and building trust is important. This trust is different, because he probably doesn't even trust himself with some of the feelings he is now encountering. Wishing all the best for you and your family.
