I lived in NYC and kept reminding myself that 1/2 of the people I encourntered were not from NYC, simply people who worked there and traveled as much as 2 hours one way to get there.
I had many experiences of kindness after I stopped them from their determined trek to their destination. It is not good to characterize a group of people by the few individuals you have personally interacted with or experiences other people have had. It's like saying all Italian men are mysoginists.
