Join the Watchtower or you will die. Only Jehovah's Witnesses have the TRUTH all other religions EVIL and from the Devil. You must beleive the Watchtower or you're going to die a painful death forever, isn't that really GOOD NEWS?

David: I disagree with you here. Most JWs have a very poor prayer life. Why? Because their relationship is with men, not God. I think if JWs start praying more for God's guidance and direction and His Holy Spirit, God will help more of them see the truth. Also the closer they get to God the further away they will get from the Borg. Don't underestimate the power of prayer.
The Borg has to encourage prayer to make the Watchtower Society appear Christian. That's the only reason they do it. I bet the kind of prayers they encourage people to pray during this assembly part are those thanking God for the "Faithful Slave" and their provisions for us. And asking God for more strength to put in more hours in service and that sort of thing. JWs are never taught to pray for what they need. God's individual help to understand the Bible. (For they think no one can do that apart from the Watchtower.) God's Holy Spirit to work in their hearts and in their lives. (JWs think only "the anointed" can receive the Holy Spirit.) JW prayers are like the prayer of the man whom Jesus critisized, the man who prayed, "Thank you God that I am so much better than other people."
As a JW I prayed daily, but basically they were mindless 10 minute or less "Thanks for the food" type of prayers.
In the last year I have learned how to REALLY pray - and what an open door! One time I prayed for almost an hour straight, and I felt so great afterwards - I had so much to say and didn't worry about "gee is that ok?" I just told him how I felt, what was on my mind, what I wanted, etc. I didn't get all my answers, but enought to keep me going. If you ask active JW's how long do they pray, I'd be suprised to find more than 2 that pray longer than 5 minutes at a time!
Jeez, what a wonderful reminder as to why I do not attend those AWFUL conventions anymore! Although, I always thought the dramas to be pretty cool...gestures greatly exagerated, kind of like kabuki theater...
obviously there excists a lack of Zeal in the ranks. I wonder why...hmm right!
greven.
"Fear is strange soil. Mainly it grows obedience like corn, which grows in rows and makes weeding easy. But sometimes it grows the potatoes of defiance, which flourish underground." -from "Small Gods" by Terry Pratchett-
I strangely enjoy conventions - not for the talks, but the atmosphere, and being able to see my old friends. They are not the same as they used to be though - we had real conventions when I was growing up. Me and Herbert had a bragging competition about how tough conventions were in the olden days in a previous similar thread. Everything we said was true - honest! http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=26652&site=3&page=1
Ah, yes, conventions. As a young man, I loved them. All that loose, willing, hot, p***y on the hoof - just panting for a hard man, which is good to find.
Or is that a good man is hard to find, I disremember.
