I can't believe this was a GB approved event since it was for international convention people.

If somebody tried to do this on a wedding they'd get dfed in a heart beat.

This was not instiagted by any of the GB members and no Pop music being playied at a JWS kingdom Hall

wedding wouldn't result in a DFing.

I think this was just a rogue event that probably resulted in someone being questioned due to this occurrence.

Its known JWs live a very boring controlled life so whenever comes up with an unusual idea they have a

tendency to jump on it with appealing thirst.

    .

I wish people who are out to slam JWS would get their facts strait rather than just throw BS

around in an attempt to do just that.

I am only just getting my head round this one after being rendered totally speechless. Back in the 1960s me and my siblings were banned from listening to pop music as it was from Satan the devil and only classical music or Kingdom melodies were allowed in our house. Yet here we see a group of brothers and sisters on the platform of a Kingdom Hall girating and warbling their way through a medley of the very same songs that I, as a JW teenager, was banned from listening to on the radio by my strict JW parents!! Then to cap it all they end up with the entire congregation up on their feet jumping around and clapping to a worldly song from today's charts with enough gusto to rival any self respecting Pentecostal congregation on a good day. Was this really done with the blessing of the GB?!!

I can only wonder what my elder dad would have to say about this if he was still alive today. In fact, how many elders and elders wives who previously looked down their noses and actually condemned members of the congregation for listening to pop music were there joining in or watching this video on you tube and commenting on how wonderful it is, just because the current GB apparently approves of such behaviour?

The words fickle and hypocritical come to mind.

We have already discussed this video on at least one other thread. It is embarassing, corny, cheesy, and like Pentecostals. The JW group, "The Theocratic Revue", is completely devoid of talent. The main girl in front can't sing or dance.

Toward the end of the video, seeing the whole kingdom hall break out in Pentecostal "happy dancing" was just plain weird and embarassing.

I wouldn't say that the specific goings-on in the video were directly approved by the GB, however, this kind of stuff has been going in a number of different areas in connection with the International Conventions, so I think the org does in general approve of and maybe encourage such.

    It's just so different now.

The GB wouldnt officially approve it, but they will turn a blind eye as it was done for the purpose of "international delegate entertainment"

I would like to quote from the 5/1/2000 WT about weddings and music and compare that with this video that was posted......

"THE wedding started with a marriage talk given in a community hall in Soweto. Then a choir of Christian youths sang songs of praise to God in four-part harmony. Next, the guests enjoyed a meal while a music tape of Kingdom melodies played softly in the background. No alcoholic beverages were served, and there was no loud music or dancing. Instead, the guests enjoyed associating together and congratulating the couple........

Interestingly, however, the Bible does not specifically refer to music and dancing at the wedding in Cana. In fact, dancing is not referred to in any of the Bible accounts of weddings. It would appear that among God’s faithful servants of Bible times, dancing was incidental and not the main feature of their weddings. Can we learn anything from this?...........

.Rather than being a marriage feast, such occasions may simply be an excuse for a dance party.....

Since the Bible record of weddings does not stress music and dancing, should this not guide a couple who plan a wedding that will honor Jehovah? Yet, in preparation for several recent weddings in southern Africa, Christian youths who were chosen to form part of the bridal party spent long hours practicing complicated dance steps. For months an inordinate amount of their time was used in this way. But Christians need to ‘buy out the time’ for “the more important things,” such as the evangelizing work, personal study, and attending Christian meetings"

Now after reading that article, can you imagine that "for months an inordinate amount of time" was used for them to learn those loud worldly songs? Shouldn't they have instead been 'buying out the time' for 'more important things' such as field service?
