    Wow...just wow!

This article to be studied next week, is one of the most distorted articles on the subject of showing love....or as Jesus stated: "the golden rule" Matt 7:12

Instead of looking at what it means to show love to members of the community, it is purely designed for witnesses to use in the "field ministry/service"

All about how to approach people with the message etc...

They have completely hijacked the scripture and applied it to pushing the message out in service, instead of how to apply true christian principles in all aspects of one's life!

This will mean that witnesses will have more of a license to ignore normal human compassion, by attempting to fulfill that desire just by preaching!!!

You are right stuck, how very jetarded of them. Oh, and "pushing the message out in service" ??

If that message is supposed to be love then they are severely constipated.

Going D2D = free advertising for the borg.

The main problem anyway with the "Jesus" version of the Golden Rule is that it simply does not go far enough.

To deal with others as WE would wish to be dealt with is to have no empathy whatsoever for the individual concerned. No, we should be treating them as they wish to be dealt with.

Of course, that would mean JW's would NOT knock on your door at any time inconvenient to you, in my case that means they would never darken my door.

very good point, Phizzy, never thought about that before....

Phizzy, outside the jaydubs, the Golden Rule has never been understood as promoting lack of empathy, but quite the opposite, all these many centuries.

In fact the very same thought, in slightly different wording, has been expressed in practically every culture and religion around the world:

You seem to still be stuck in Borg mentality there - ruthlessly literal-minded when it suits them and "twisting the scriptures" when literal interpretations don't suit the purpose. That's just childish.

I am well aware of the Golden Rule in all its forms over the centuries, but I stand by what I say above, we can go further than "Jesus'" weak, non-empathetic version. Even Rabbi Hillel's was better, and probably whom "Jesus" got the idea from, with his added "now go away and learn what this means".

I cut and paste from above " we should be treating them as they wish to be dealt with."

Phizzy, isn't that what YOU would want? To be treated the way YOU want to be treated? So it comes down to the same thing. You're just nit-picking over plain English words here.

This seems to be a thing now, I've had this same conversation with oh-so-cool hipsters before who think they have a brilliant new take on an very old thought.

If JWs really followed the Golden Rule, there would be no shunning, since no one wants to be shunned.

Good points though SIAR2. Every study edition now seems like it has to be either controlling dubbies behavior, pushing the OBEY OBEY OBEY mantra, gushing about the "organization" or the "faithful slave". When they are not warning against apostates or adult videos, or going to college or having a decent job, they gush about King David. They always take a bible text, twist it to fit whatever BITE method they are using that day, and drop the mind control hammer around paragraph 10-15.

In the past you would see an occasional article about how to apply christian qualities in your everyday life, how to treat others, or other encouraging, somewhat quality material. Now every article must further the mind control agenda. Thats why they couldnt have say, one week about how to apply the golden rule in everyday life and the next in the ministry. Instead they have this, and then the next two articles are all about "organization" the first convincing JWs that Jehovah has always had an organization, and after that false premise is firmly implanted, the next week guilt trips and uses fear techniques to pummel JWs into obeying "Jehovahs organization"
