    From Sparky1:

Sorry James Jackson but there was an Elders Manual in hardcover book form back in the 70's. It was not as comprehensive as the current version but it was a full size hardcover publication. When I went throught Bethel Entrants School in 1974 it was part of our study curriculum.

Maybe in Bethel and some other areas you had a hardback Elders Procedure Book, but when I was appointed in 1989, the CO handed 3 booklets on directions for the Elders, each had a different copyright date, every Elder on the Body had the same booklets. 2 years later, I moved to another state and The Elders there had the same 3 booklets. Just my experience.

but some may find this stuff boring.

I found it to be quite the opposite. Sometimes I skim or speed-read posts, but I read very slowly and with keen interest what you wrote. It was extremely interesting. And, by the way, I have always found your words to have the ring of truth and have never had even the slightest doubt about anything you've said.

So is that man still a JW? If so, do you know how he feels about the sitution in JWdom now? Is he a 100% true believer? Does he have doubts?

P.S. I remember the three separate booklets for elders, too.

It's easy to go to someone in private and apologise and shake their hand.

How about these ex-elders now go to all the bible studies they had over the years and undo the false teachings they drilled into peoples minds.

Now that would deserve a pat on the back.

Magnum: So is that man still a JW?

Than former Elder has been re-appointed again as an Elder recently(after 8 years off) and his son is an MS.

Knowing both of them very well now, they are real free mind thinkers, doing things on the edge that most witnesses might consider worldly traits(watching questionable movies, entertainment, going to worldly sporting events, etc). I know for a fact, this elder has always struggled with the DF arrangement, for he had to be counseled on 2 seperate occasions reaching out to DF people without going through the BOE. Why is he still in? FAMILY FAMILY FAMILY. He is 70 now, his brothers, sisters, children, and grandchildren are all JW's. I have confided in him some of my struggles (overlapping generations, unfulfilled expectations, tce.), 2 years ago. He agreed with me these are legit complaints. He added that my concerns are safe with himhe and that would be honored to have me serve again with him.

Thanks you all for your support.

I see you enjoy patting yourself on the back for continuing to serve in a cult.

Dis-Member. I'm in a similar situation. Served with extensive priveleges for many years and helped many "into the truth". At least a half a dozen became elders, and all became good friends. They're just as indoctrinated as I was. When I meet them now by accident, they're uncomfortable and make an awkward attempt to converse. The "switch" has gone on. It's called Satan alert. CAUTION! So I'm wondering what kind of response you think you'd get if you went back to all those that you studied with and tried to reverse what you had taught them? JJ is doing some balancing. Coming off as a raging apostate, or even a calm one, will close if not slam the door. You gotta pick your time and place..and that ain't easy.

The response you get is irrelevant. Your not doing it to make points and win prizes. You are doing it to make amends. You sold them a false dream and a lie. It's your duty. It's the only right thing to do. The same zeal and dedication one had in bringing them in should now be used to bring them out. Or at least give them a choice and one hell of an apology.

Not telling them the 'truth about the truth' is even worse then the first deception.

James Jackson comes over as sincere but he must recognize that people are cautious of anecdotal accounts, this is after all the internet.....

I understand the dilemma, having been so far in myself and served on numerous J/C's. The overriding question is always " What do The Society say?" , not "What do The Scriptures say". You have to be a company man to survive.

To them it is inconceivable that the Society is wrong, so, to follow them is to do God's will. That is how they sleep soundly at night.
