Sorry, but I think there's a missing puzzle piece here. Ingesting electrons for energy I have no problem with. But where is the building material coming from, with which to grow and divide? They must be absorbing molecules from their surroundings for this purpose, at the very least.

Apognophos; right!, with electrons it is good to have a few protons in your diet, at least while you are in the growing stage.
