Thank you Jam, I'm not a writer I scribble on occasion.
Quendi thank you for your personal insights I appreciate your candor.
my mind is how I got out...
The real problem, as I see it, is that the Watchtower keeps telling you that you are broken, that you cannot trust your own thoughts or reasoning skills. It seemed to me to be a constant theme, you need them to tell you what to do, otherwise your sinful inclinations will take over. It's a very fundamental issue. If you see problems within the organization, the fault is in you, YOU are being fault finding, YOU are questioning God's appointed entity, there is something wrong with YOU.
It's no wonder people are afraid to leave, they have learned to not trust their own thoughts.
It's like the unfaithful husband who is caught in the act, and says "who are you going to believe, me, or your own lying eyes?"
I believe you hit the nail right on the head, LisaRose. We were taught that our sinful tendencies left us open to influence by Satan and his demons and that only the WTS, being God's appointed instrument for dispensing spiritual food, could be trusted to point us to the right path. My judicial committee told me that I was "spiritually sick" and so I could not rely on my own understanding about being a gay man. I had to re-learn to trust my own natural, God-given thinking abilities again. Shaking off more than thirty years of WTS indoctrination takes time and that was what my rebuilding project was all about.
