In another thread a sister is being told that Babylon the great fell in 1918 but all growing up I was taught that Babylon the great was about to be destroyed by the UN. So what am I missionng here or are they caught in a blatant contradiction? Or was I hearing it wrong?
so when exactly did babylon the great fall?

According to Watchtower lore:
Babylon the Great fell in 1918 (or is it 1919?) invisibly. It supposedly fell by receiving God’s adverse judgment and losing its hold on “God’s servants” in that year.
Babylon the Great fell, but remains to be destroyed. It's sort of like the time between being pronounced guilty and being executed. Babylon the Great is viewed as being on death row.
To illustrate this, they argue that this is the antitype of Babylon’s fall in 539 BC. After the city fell, the Jews were set free, but the city existed for some time before its final destruction.

You know how Jesus "came" in 1914 but it was really invisible? And even though "the Kingdom" was established in 1914, you're still supposed to pray for it to "come"?
Same thing with "Babylon the Great". It "fell" in 1919 but it will also "fall" when it is destroyed by the UN.
Hope that clears it up - honestly, it's so simple & straightforward, I'm surprised anyone would have a question on it.

I think the wt writers got a wake-up call when they could see the religious, Babylon the Great- fueled attack on the twin towers, that stared them in the face from their windows across the East River, and people fleeing the dust cloud across the Brooklyn Bridge.
The insane doctrine of Balylon (religion) falling in 1918 because the societie's officers were released from "captivity" by the SECULAR authorities, never made sense, and the crumbling World Trade Center, brought down by believers that were reaching out for the promised virgins in heaven, should have driven that point home to them.
did you hear wt writers mentioning babylon lately?

It really doesn't matter what WTS says about it, as anything they say today can be changed next week, next month, next year (or all of the above).
Just grab any date out of your ass and you'll be close enough.
Evidently(TM) that works for the GB.

"How Babylon the Great has 'Shut up the Kingdom'" - Friday afternoon talk at the International Convention this year. Same, same old rubbish of course.

‘She has fallen! Babylon the Great has fallen!’” (Revelation 14:8) Yes, from God’s viewpoint, Babylon the Great has already fallen. In 1919, Jehovah’s anointed servants were set free from the bondage of Babylonish doctrines and practices, which have dominated peoples and nations for millenniums. (Revelation 17:1, 15) They could henceforth devote themselves to promoting true worship. Global preaching of the good news of God’s Kingdom has taken place since then.—Matthew 24:14.

ST. George of England, obviously you were at the assemblies and I was not. so:
how can Babylon the Great have fallen (had "A" fall) in 1919 and still have "shut up the Kingdom", now 100 years old?
perhaps neither babylon nor the Kingdom are so 'great' after all?
