I once had a brother get in a heated argument with me because he thought that JW's could not participate in the stock market because that was no different than gambling at a casino. No matter what I said to reason with him, he was steadfast in his opinion and was convinced it was written somewhere in the publications.

If he only knew what I really think, which is........ who the #&%@#@#@!!! does any of the windbags think they are to be telling people how they can spend their money to either make more money or to entertain themselves????? If it isn't participating in an obvious sin then pretentious "brothers' and the faux-F&DS can shut their pie holes about it.

I have mention this before, but in 70's my wife and I

was on a TV game show, we won. You would think we

won the lottery and hit it big in Vegas, the way

the freinds acted toward us.. We were newly baptized.

The Elders tried to figure out if our participation on the

show was aganist Bible principles.. So they told us to

keep it on the down low. Hell we were on national TV. LOL

    *** w93 6/15 p. 31 Questions From Readers ***

The discussion published in 1973 pointed out that Christians rightly avoid any sweepstakes or drawings that involve buying chances (such as raffle tickets) or putting up money for a chance to win some prize. Simply put, we avoid gambling, which certainly is an expression of greediness.—1 Corinthians 5:11; 6:10; Ephesians 4:19; 5:3, 5.

A store or a business, though, may use drawings as a means of advertising. All a person has to do is submit his name or send in a form or a ticket, without buying anything. The drawing is part of the advertising scheme; it is designed to be an impartial method of deciding who will be given the prize or prizes. Certain Christians might feel that they could accept the prize in a drawing that did not involve gambling, just as they could accept free samples or other presents that a business or a store might use in its advertising program.

However, some Christians would shun anything of this sort, not wanting to stumble or confuse others and also seeking to keep far from any enticement to trust so-called Lady Luck. As Isaiah 65:11 shows, God’s servants do not link themselves with “the god of Good Luck” or “the god of Destiny.” They may also feel that they would not want to be part of any publicity that winners might be required to share in. Those who feel this way should certainly not be critical of a Christian or Christians whose conscience allows them to be involved in such drawings.—Compare Romans 14:1-4.

Jam- if you won the sports car, did you do the right thing and trade it in for a 4 door sedan for pioneering?

Every congregation sets up their own personal viewpoints on matters based on the elders pet peeves or that of their wives.

every hall is a sub cult under the common cult.

Some halls are heavy drinkers but better not play Bunko or your in the back room. Other halls won't touch the booze but will bingo and bunko away.

in the end what fun the hall has or doesn't have depends upon the elders cherry picking from what pleases them. Oh and it could change too depending on the life situations of the elders doing the picking.

this elder is in his hot tub right now with a beer.

Blondie- excellent find. Thanks. As usual, the double talk and leaving room for super uptight "friends" to control the behavior of others by threatening to be "stumbled". Uggghhhhhhh.......... So sick of that way of thinking.

but we also purchase a second home. I was still new and wasn't

totally brain washed. Just in case we were still here after 1975. LOL
