Hi sowhatnow, a while back I started a thread titled "Were you "diciplined" after the meetings?" Back in the 50's when I was little I was the only youngster in the cong. I would get the look and a wisper "wait till we get home." Then an unbearable feeling of dread set in as I knew what awaited me after the meeting. My dad didn't want the others to know he beat his toddler with a belt and he didn't want my screams to make him look bad as he was the PO. So that phrase is a sad one for me to this day.

Been there done that got the bruises.

I know where you are coming from.

Nothing instilled terror like the phrase..wait until we get home.

I will never forget that my mom used to drag my hyper active little brother down the the ladies room and beat him with a wooden spoon, because at age 2 thru 5, he couldnt sit still. he would just cry himself to sleep.

my mom was a firm beiever in wooden spoons. my dad made a paddle out of wood and hung it on the wall. my brother one day,got up on a chair got it and broke it in half. he was like , 4 yrs old. lol . my brother never liked meetings and as soon as he was around 14 he refused to go to anhy more meetings, my dad not a jw agreed he did not have to go if her did not want to. somehow he wasnt on my side for that. I was guilted into going,

my mom would use sad guilt stories to get me to go.

oh, dont make jehovah sad by staying home.

oh, jehovah appreciates every effort we put forth to get to meeetings,

hey you dont know if the meeting you miss armageddon will come! and youll be out there and we will all be in the kingdom hall.

    and my all time favorite,

sister so and so is handicapped, ans SHE can get to te meeting, and whats wrong with you?

MissFit, (((hugs))) Sowhatnow, Yep, my mom was never physically violent but she took guilt and manipulation to an art form. I feel for you.

" Phizzy, is that where your nickname came from? " CultBgone asked.

Yup, my efervescent guts earned me that nickname at school.

I just remembered another funny "not till after the meeting" incident. A small girl, around 5 years old, in our Congo asked to go for a pee about 10 minutes before the end, and was told by her father to wait till after, she got off her seat and stood and looked him in the eye and peed all over the K.H carpet LOL

Ever afterward if she asked, she was rushed straight out at great speed by daddy, he was a bit of a verbal bully, but this little kid stood up to him, I wonder if she is still in ? she must be 25 or so now.

Anyone else have after the meeting stories?

One happy memory is the get togethers after the meeting. When I was little one of the things I looked forward to was the stop at the 7 to 11 for an icee on the way home.

I remember taking the kids out after the meeting as a treat.

Miss. Fit who knows how to bribe ( er train )her kids on meeting days.

Cant smack your child till after the meeting...

"just you wait till you get home young man!" dad would say to me...just because I might have squirmed in my seat a little as a 4 year old!

smiddy, if it wasnt for the fact my kids were with me in the same hotel room at conventions,

having sex would have been on my everynight to do list, lol
