Charles Taze Russell was chosen by God Jehovah to reveal to mankind the way to salvation in this time of the end.

charles taze russell embarks on a public speaking program that takes him all over the world with him giving lectures in many countrys .

My question to jehovahs Witnesses : Was that holy spirit , inspired revelations that he gave ? Was that new light from Jehovah ? new truths ?

When Judge rutherford took over the presidency of the "Watchtower " he came out with a lot of different interpretations as regards bible prophecy and their application , a lot of it nullifying what C.T.Russell had espoused .

Was jehovah wrong when he gave this information to C.T.Russell ?, seeing its been changed now.

When Nathan H. Knorr came on the scene , nothing much had changed except for the fact that he threw a lot of what J.F.Rutherford had to say to the scrapheat as being old light.

And so it goes on , Freddie Franz relegated Nathan H. Knorrs new light to the waste basket as did the successors to Freddie Franz .

To an intelligent thinking person , old light means something was false , new light means you have a new interpretation of what you formally beleived was wrong.

So the bottom line is , C.T. Russell was wrong

    Judge F. Rutherford was Wrong

    Fred Franz was wrong

and the present day Governing body are also wrong.

New light only appears after history proves old light failed to eventuate .

I sure wish JWs could recognize this. However, most are absolutely clueless as to JW history. Most of the JWs in my area probably wouln't even recoginze the names "Knorr" and "Franz", and if they did even slightly recognize them, they wouldn't have a clue who the people were.

To an intelligent thinking person , old light means something was false , new light means you have a new interpretation of what you formally beleived was wrong.

I've been thinking about that a lot lately - that JWs can't bring themselves to use the word "wrong" relative to themselves.

JW: "Isn't this new light wonderful?"

Magnum: "What about the old light? Was it wrong?"

JW: [Deer in headlights look. Operating system crashes. System message: "Warning - that does not compute."]

Spot on, Magnum.....but as next week's study Wt Article will say

par 10. We might well ask: "Am I keeping pace with refinenements in our understanding of Scriptural truths?.....................

Par 15. If we are to have Jehovah's favour and blessing as individuals, we must support his organization and accept adjustments in our understanding of the Scriptures.

No bones about it, they must .

John a Brown started this nonsence with his end of the gentile times chart, so why isn't he included in god like status of Rutherford and Russell?

BluesBrother - it irks me the way they use terminology like "refinenements in our understanding" and "adjustments in our understanding". Why don't they say things like "corrections of our wrong teachings" or "corrections of our errors"? Their wording is calculated and deliberately chosen so as not to give the impression they were wrong.

Jehovah writes in pencil so, if nececessary, it can be erased. "Jehovah" sounds suspiciously like a man.

Funny, we used to get quizzed to be sure we knew all the names of the wt prez past and current (and in order). We were also supposed to know the names of everyone on the gb and the teachers at gilead.

I studied in the red 'paradise' book and it seemed like the Cliff Notes version of the blue 'truth' book. Then we had the 'knowledge' book which went over like a bomb because it was still too "difficult" and finally 'what does the bibble really teach' which is just pablum mixed with baloney.

The wt mag used to present an opportunity for "research" but I understand that is now frowned upon, as you are only supposed to parrot back the words like someone being taught a language for the first time.

No wonder the newer dubbies are wt-history dumb. They've never received anything substantial to chew on.

If history operated under the same mindset as WT, it would exclaim that when people thought the earth was flat and the Sun revolved around it, they were absolutely correct. The modern view that the earth is a sphere and, in fact, the earth revolves around the Sun, does not nullify the old view but is merely an "adjustment" (new light) of the previous view. Both views are true, and proof that no matter how much things change, humans were right all along.

Do plagiarists ever acknowledge the source they've stolen from?

Charlest Taze Russell, who was never a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses, did not claim to reveal "the way to salvation in this time of the end"; he did claim to that what man has traditionally presented as the basis of salvation is not what is taught in the Bible. This does not mean that he was saying that those whom he believed to have taught error were not saved through Christ. While Russell was surely not without error, nor did ever claim that his writings were infallible, he simply pointed out what Bible says and/or does not say regarding salvation, to the best of his knowledge.

See Russell's series of studies regarding the atonement:

The Watch Tower leadership today often refers to Russell was preaching "the truth"; I believe he did. However, if what Russell preached was the truth, then what the WTS today preaches is not the truth, since the message Russell preached is almost the opposite what the JWs preach today.

Russell, however, disclaimed any divine authority over other Christians; he was a non-sectarian who did not believe in an organization such as Rutherford created after Russell died.

Anyone who exalts Russell to the status of "god" is in self-contradiction, since Russell preached against such.
