Why would anyone in their right mind want to return to the Jehovah's Witness cult and its vomit?
There is no need to 'confess' PAST sins.
I came back from inactivity twice and was never asked about what I did while I was away, nor did I volunteer any info.
What happens if someone holds onto an electric fence?
What happens if someone hits themself in the head with a hammer once a day?
bafh, you have some serious research to do if you think returning to the religion is a good idea. I suggest starting with jwfacts.com.
I had a friend who was inactive for a couple of years. She had a boyfriend during that time though noons in the congregation knew about it. When she came back, she didn't tell the elders about it for a few months. But it came out somehow and she confessed to it and a judicial was set up and she was disfellowshipped for a year over it.
I was inactive once and decided to go back (lasted about a month and couldn't stomach anymore of it) and before I could reengage in the ministry again, the elders had to check with me to make sure I hadn't fallen into serious sin while I was inactive.
Prior to this, a brother told me that it was customary now for elders to ask inactive ones who want to reactivate about whether they have committed sins whilst being inactive.
This is my knowledge of the matter based upon my experience in the Evesham Hampton congregation in the UK.
I also have a friend who recently got reinstated and immediately became inactive. And I know loads in my area who have done that over the years. Whether or not you want to confess to them any wrongdoing or just lie about it depends on how much you believe in the confession of elders to gain Jehovah's approval. If you don't believe, why confess to anything?
ROFLMAO Apognophos
Each hall is different. And alot depends on what you let these guys get away with.
May I ask for more detail to your question? I'm not sure I fully understand what you are asking.
What happens is not so cut-and-dried. It depends on a lot of factors, such as (1) are you from a prominent family in the borg? (2) is there anyone on the body of elders or elder's wife or wives who do not like you? (3) do you believe the borg has the truth, but no one else does?
I agree with Honesty. Why would you put yourself through that kangaroo court drama just so you can be their slave again?
I hope you find the answers to your questions but without the mental lashing of a committee meeting.
Aside from many of the "emotionally" spawned responses, I would ask, "Why would you confess your sins to the Elders?"
Many have truly lost focus - or had it subtly removed from them - that we confess our sins to one another, not to the Elders. Yes, the Elders are supposed to confess their sins to all. Why? It keeps us all humble and it is a constant reminder that NONE of us are without sin. (James 5:16)
Likewise, it is Christ we serve. He is our Head and Master, not a group of men or an organization. (1 Cor 11:3)
If anyone has any other view on this, they are in "fear of men" (and what they can do to you, namely disfellowshipment) and not in fear of God.
It is interesting how the very thing Christ came to release mankind from has reared its ugly head and re-enslaved mankind: Religious organization. It is religious organization that has taken much of mankind and it has usurped and taken possession of what is not theirs: Christs property, mankind. (1 Cor 11:3)
I believe that one should not be so concerned about returning to any religious organization. One should be more concerned about stationing themselves before the one the Most High God has commanded us to listen to. That one is not an organization, but a person. He is the Son of God, our Head, Master, and only Teacher. (Luke 9:35)
Pray intensely to the Father (through His Son) and ask Him for his wisdom, his knowledge and his understanding. Keep on asking for these things. Never give up or let up in asking for these things. Your goal in asking for these things is to have your eyes opened by God though Christ so that you will be able to see that ALL religion in the world is false, yes even the WTBTS.
In time, you will come to know that only one is "true" and is "the triuth" and he is Christ Jesus. It will be by what Christ himself teaches that will open our eyes, not by ANY religious organization.
If we approach God in prayer (this is the key), we will receive his wisdom, understanding and knowledge by His Holy Spirit through his "living" Son. No book by any name or organization by any name can give us these things. Only God can "through" His Son.
Jesus said at John 14:6 that "he" is the way, the truth and the life and that no one comes to the Father "but by him."
Thus, it is not by a book called the Bible and it is not by ANY religious organization. Those things have no power. Did God command us to listen to such things or did he instruct us to listen to his Son? (Luke 9:35)
Many today act as if Christ is dead and that one cannot receive instruction, wisdom, understanding and knowledge from him. So they focus on a book and religious organizations. This is idolatry and faithlessness in the individual. They place faith in the things they create and "can see." (Religious organizations and a book). (Romans 1:25)
Yet both God and Christ are invisible and it REQUIRES faith to believe in what cannot be seen. "We walk by faith, not by sight." (John 4:23-24, Col 1:15, Hebrews 11:1)
The WTBTS (as with all religious organizations) has made the entire world a faithless, adulters, idolators, and "dependent" upon "the oganization."
So much so, people revere "the organization" and are afraid to leave it. This is being taken "captive." Christ meant for his disciples to be a free people, not an enslaved one.
Not only that, some who leave or get disfellowshiped, want to go back to "the organization."
WHAT TO DO?
Attach (member) yourself to the person of Christ. Become his disciple as he asked you to as he is our only Teacher. Reject all religious organizations in this world. If you join ANY, you become disciples of the religious organization and you will even adopt the names they call themselves.
Jesus never called himself by any of the fancy titles we hear today. He never called himself a Christian. He never called his disciples Christians and they never called themselve by such a title.
Men waited until the Master ascended and then created all of these adulterous names. Why are they adulterous? Because we are supposed to be "married" or attached only to Christ. He alone is our Head, Lord and Master. We take his name upon ourselves like a wife takes her husbands name.
If we take upon any another name, we become adulterers.
Thus, it is not being a JW, a Seventh Day Adventist, a Catholic, a Mormon, etc that one should be seeking to be. They should simply be disciples of Christ. Nothing more, nothing less.
Lastly, view and use prayer to the Father through Christ as your primary means of getting wisdom, understanding and knowledge. Prayer is very powerful if used correctly. It is powerful because all that we petition comes to us from the Father through his son. The transport system is The Holy Spirit which belongs only to God.
What God gives us does not take a detour and goes into a book called the Bible or through a religious organization; it comes from the Father "through" Christ only.
Religious organization has imposed itself in between mankind and Christ thus blocking what we would otherwise receive from God through Christ.
This is what many have been blinded from seeing.
The masses have been made to be dependent upon "the organization" and a book called the Bible.
I am an ex-JW (disassociated) and I know how powerful prayer to the Father through Christ is. Nothing the WTBTS or the Bible provides compares to what God gives those who pray to him through his son and who exercises faith in them and receives from the Father through the son.
Imagine there being no organization in the way telling you what to believe, how to believe, what to read, what not to read, who to talk to, who not to talk to, what to say, and how to say it?
It is truly liberating! It is liberating to think, reason and conclude for oneself and to fully express love - unhindered - to ALL persons.
The WTBTS loves to categories people into classes. Namely, active JWs, inactive JWs, disfellowshiped ones, apostates, and worldy persons (just to name a few). These are all man-made titles that divide people. Christ never did this.
It is also a clever way to keep JWs under "lock and key" mentally and to keep its membership kindergarten-level.
1 John 4:1 implies that the individual "think, reason, and conclude" for himself. No human or human agent can arrogate itself to that for us.
Know who your TRUE and ONLY Master is and "the organization" will mean nothing to you. You will come to feel pity and even more love and concern for those still held captive to it.
