Unaccompanied illegal immigrant children with communicable diseases have given or exposed federal agents to lice, scabies, tuberculosis and chicken pox, according to a report issued Thursday by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General.
It appears that the problem is not only that these children are coming from areas that have these issues, but they are being kept in overcrowded conditions, which not only causes issues for them, but exposes DHS agents to these problems. TB is a disease of poverty, it is contagious, but it usually requires repeated exposure. This is not a public health issue, it's more of a problem for the children and DHS agents that directly work with these children.
I don't think it's anything to panic about.
