First:
Jehovah's Witnesses have a disturbingly perverse and disgustingly warped view of the Hebrew Scriptures. They, like everyone from the Luther/Calvin movement on, take the Old Testament to places of literalism that are shockingly offensive to those for whom the original scriptures were intended.
And if interpretation and complete ignorance to the history and development isn't enough... The name of the Hebrew god is NOT translated into “Jehovah.” It was in the 1800s... but it is not TODAY. In learning Judaism, it is not just the lessons of the scriptures that are important, but also the development. “Studying the bible” doesn't mean studying just the CONTENTS. It means studying how the scriptures came to be, why they were written, understanding the culture of the time, and the way these words helped a nation keep their heritage, culture, and history while giving life lessons, wisdom, song, and strength.
Jehovah's Witnesses are in NO WAY similar, in the realm of, or respectful of Judaism. They are in no way even remotely close. If you want to do yourself a favor, please find an online college course on the old Testament and take it before ever making such a horrifying claim. You will find out that, even the Jews are not so daft as to believe the first words witten in all of human history were "In the beginning..."
Second:
If you read the books of the New Testament in order of date written (instead of the order they are in now), you will see how, over the course of the century, the divinity of Jesus was continually raised higher and higher. This was not only because of competing Christologies trying gain traction, but also the natural course of human behavior. This is why earlier books like James and 1&2 Thessalonians read with Jesus being more of a divine prophet while older literature like John & the Letters put Jesus as being God's right hand or God himself. Religions pick some random location on the timeline and decide to build doctrine out of it. The Catholic Church took the later developments and built the trinity (as it is somewhat implied in the bible) while Protestants take Jesus from a little earlier in the bible writing.
So it depends on which Christianity you are talking about because not all Christianity teaches that one can have a relationship with Jesus and that God is the Father.
Third:
Jehovah's Witnesses are not a religion of works. They do not actually DO anything. They create a situation that doesn't exist and then do THEIR works according to THEIR own minds. They are, by structure, no different than televangelists. Televangelists take a “problem” and solve that “problem” by doing THEIR version of what “works” are. Then they feel good about themselves and tell everyone what good work they are doing. In actuality they are doing nothing. Jehovah's Witnesses do no help the poor, open hospitals, feed the hungry, donate to charities, give back to the community, aid in times of natural disasters, or help the world become a better place in any measurable way.
They do help THEIR OWN PEOPLE... and in their heads, this is considered “works...” and they actively brag to others about all the "good work" they are doing. But just because that is their opinion doesn't make it reality. It would be like a husband who is an avid bowler buying a bowling bag for his wife for her birthday. Jehovah's Witnesses are NOT a religion of works. They are a religion of THEIR works... but not any determinable works of movement when it comes to humanity.
They are a self-imposed working relision just do nothing. If they were to disappear overnight, no one in the world would even notice. That is NOT the effect of a religion of works.
