James, that is a bad analogy, lol, since the torn off part, the past , has now proven to be full of IT. but:

there must be some related truth in the mechanism, thank you.

Law school and early years of practice. I was so busy. Also, I finally had money to do things in NY such as concerts, plays, etc. I went whole hog.

This pretty much sums it up for me........age 70.

    1. Everything hurts and what doesn't hurt doesn't work.

    5. Your children begin to look middle aged.

    7. Your mind makes contracts your body can't meet.

    8. You look forward to a dull evening.

    11. You sit in a rocking chair and can't get it going.

    12. Your knees buckle, and your belt won't.

    15. Your back goes out more than you do.

    18. The little old gray haired lady you helped across the street is your wife.

    19. You sink your teeth into a steak, and they stay there.

    22. You know all the answers, but nobody asks you the questions.

    38. People call at 9 p.m. and ask, "Did I wake you?"

    46. You can't remember the last time you lay on the floor to watch TV.

    51. When you bend over, you look for something else to do while you're down there.

You try to straighten out the wrinkles in your socks and discover you weren’t wearing any.

Im 36. I nver felt I was old. I was a kid, teenager and stayed that way until 33 actually.. because of JWs!... yes realizing God was not real grew me up quickly... Then my goal... marry a prett wife, have a family, live in peace... is coming true...

At 36 I'm more into exploration.. two things:

    1. How was the bible written... thus my project

    2. What religion do I belong to.... good question I give myself 4 years... lol

Age is a state of mind, I think - or rather, how you react to it. Yes, there are physical effects but I know young people who already act old and older people who are mentally young.

I think about this sort of stuff about twice a year - New Year and my birthday. I just turned 59, am single and fairly fit and healthy. In a few hours I'm off for a 'spur of the moment' trip. I've booked the car on a ferry to France and I will call and see a friend in Andorra. Other than that the trip is unplanned - I may be away for a week or a month, driving through France and probably Spain.

There are always new places to visit, new people to meet, new experiences to - well, experience.

There will come a time, probably, when this won't be possible but for now I want to enjoy as much as I can. Life is not a rehearsal and you only get one shot at it.
