If you take the time to research and read all sides of the conflict it will become evident Israel has much to answer to also. Metatron, in my opinion you understand the conflict perfectly.

    A must read:

    Synopsis of the book -

In 1997, a tragedy struck the family of Israeli-American Miko Peled: His beloved niece Smadar was killed by a suicide bomber in Jerusalem. That tragedy propelled Peled onto a journey of discovery. It pushed him to re-examine many of the beliefs he had grown up with, as the son and grandson of leading figures in Israel's political-military elite, and transformed him into a courageous and visionary activist in the struggle for human rights and a hopeful, lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians. Esteemed African-American author Alice Walker has contributed a very moving and thoughtful Foreword to The General's Son.
The journey that Peled traces in this groundbreaking memoir echoed the trajectory taken 40 years earlier by his father, renowned Israeli general Matti Peled. In The General's Son, Miko Peled tells us about growing up in Jerusalem in the heart of the group that ruled the then-young country, Israel. He takes us with him through his service in the country's military and his subsequent global travels... and then, after his niece's killing, back into the heart of Israel's conflict with the Palestinians. The book provides a compelling and intimate window into the fears that haunt both peoples-- but also into the real courage of all those who, like Miko Peled, have been pursuing a steadfast grassroots struggle for equality for all the residents of the Holy Land.

It is quite evident from many post on this thread that will always support one side or the other no matter what the circumstances of a particular phase in this on going conflict. IMO the historically view on the Israel/Palistinian conflict only confuse the issue of who is responsible for this particle episode. Having discovered the real reason for Israel's preemtive strike against Hamas I think that they were quite justified. As at present Israel has achieved it's objective, things will return to normal. By that once Hamas can afford to re-arm itself with some more rockets, spend a few million $ on new attack tunnels, explosive, and what ever else they can equipe themselves with to continue the with what ever plan they come up with to remove the Jews there will be another simlar reaction for Israel at the appropriate time.

Anyone who believes that appeasement is the solution, just reflect on the horrific result of that policy in the 1930's, and how many died durring WW2.

    Palestinian deaths exceed 1,400.

56 soldiers and 3 civilians on Israeli side.

Oh yes that really looks like self defense.

I often hear this talking point being made by the left, and when you really think about it, it is a silly argument.

Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, and by the time WWII was over, the number of Japanese casualities far exceeded American casualities. Does this mean that because more casualties were caused by the United States, that they were morally wrong to defend themselves? Hamas completely crossed the line by launching rockets at a civilian populace, and now they are reaping what they have sown. If the Palestinians keep electing Islamic terrorist regimes into power, then they only have themselves to blame for the deaths of their loved ones.

What is even more baffling is that Isreal provides the Palestinians with water, power and sanitation, in other words civilization.

I thought this BBC documentary was a very balanced analysis on the birth of Isreal. In short I believe that the Nazi's are ultimately to blame for creation of the Isreali state in Palestine.
