Thanks for discussing this with me, I keep replying to everyone because I can't figure out to reply to specifics.

PaintedToe-Yes there are noise ordinances, though the officials hate hearing about it I was told because then decibels must be proved, etc, and there is so much 'he said she said.' In the final analysis while he may feel he has a right, we also have rights to enjoy our homes. We can threaten lawsuits. I was told that's how they ended up in my neighborhood, that they were threatened with suits in their former residence, for noise. And thanks for the lingo, a 'brother'.

Steve-Yup agreed, though there are people who can beat the dog one day and show up for church the next, and smile all the while. My other JV acquaintances are decent people, the two that I'm thinking of even inspirational. Of course the good wouldn;ty looks so good but fot=r the bad.

Thanks again, I did write a letter in the 'former cycle,' at my doctor's request! It seemed to have worked then, but now as I pause to think I am afraid of retaliation. I'm currently out here by myself; he's here all day, I go to work; I want to chew on that for a while, maybe another signatory, though he'll blame me since I spoke up before. Anyway, thinking 'out loud' but thanks for giving me a place to do it.

Guns were forbidden by my KH in the 1950s and 1960s. I was raised that guns were evil. Jehovah provided so we needed no guns for security. Whether or not to have guns probably varies by geographical area.

I would suggest writing to the local KH. Call your local law enforcement and research what the local laws are. Many lawyers offer a consultation for free or nominal cost.

I would be most upset. My building was home to punk rock bands. The police never came. The best I managed was to have the landlord refuse to renew the leases. Co-ops would solve the matter.

I am from WA state originally and guns are not generally glorified among JWs, but they are not any kind of forbidden, either.

My cousin/2nd cousin is a JW. His family is totally redneck. His dad was killed by his mom about 30 years ago along with daddy's mistress. All were JWs. Mom didn't even get charged because it came under the allowable honor killing of spouses in the US. Find one in the act in your marital bed and apparently, anything goes. So, 20 years later, he is hunting, and in an accident, killed his half brother (mom remarried, ain't that nice?).

All this is to say that guns are used among JWs. My family used to hunt and target shoot (in ok places to do those things, not our backyard). After my (first) cousin(A JW) killed himself during a hunting trip, it kind of put everyone off of hunting and they only ever went camping after that.

If the law(sheriff/police) itself won't help now, go to your local congressman and senator (or city council?) and tell them the problem. It might be time to change the law. If you know any lawyers, now is a good time for a friendly conversation. Shooting up neighborhoods is dangerous beyond the annoyance factor. The elders won't do you any good probably, but sure, try to even get one on the phone. Good luck with that.

#1 Do you really want to upset ANYONE who loves guns so much?

#2 You might want to get advice from a local attorney or legal plan. You may have more leverage with civil law vs criminal. Quiet enjoyment.

Didn't the founding fathers sign their names in a circle, so none could be named the instigator? Avoid words like "behooves" and your neighbour won't know it is you.

How ironic this post is on a day JWs studied about 'loving your neighbor as yourself' in the WT study.

You maybe able to find a decibal meter app for your phone, if you need to prove it.

    Best wishes,

    LQ

After reading the various suggestions, I think the wisest ( & SAFEST ) approach is to see an attorney for a possibly FREE initial consultation. Explain the situation and let the attorney advise you as to which option to take. Maybe filing a noise complaint might work. I like the idea of the attorney writing a letter to the elders at the local Kingdom Hall. Whatever occurs, your FIRST priority is to look out for YOUR SAFETY and prevent any retaliation. The attorney can advise about this as well. Good luck!

I know in different areas of the country Jehovah's Witnesses look at gun ownership differently. If you have guns strictly to acquire food they don't say much but if you own hand guns in our area they will not appoint them as servants. Many JW's would never admit they own guns because they are pacifists and it is actually frowned upon by many.

You may want to write a letter to the local congregation and let them know what is going on and just let them know there are many neighbors upset with it and you were hoping they could assist in the matter. If they get a complaint they will talk to the head of that household. I would never sign my name to it though because you never know who they are connect to and if they will protect them.

You may want to contact an attorney first to see what your rights are and if they are violating the law. I hope you can get this worked out so you can have some peace.

Any hint this is "typical" or "sanctioned" JW behavior is mischievous. Quite why the OP overly-focuses on this family's nominal religion is a mystery. In practically every conceivable respect, the family are decisively not JWs. I'd hope the OP writer would own a pair of balls and deal with this chronic bad neighbor gun protocol, stop the talk about the family's reported religious beliefs and do something about it rather than this weak-minded limp talk. Man up, please!
