2nd Oct 1914 has always been the end of the Gentile times. The Watchtower just hopes people don't notice that WW1 does not sync up with the start of the last days. This is because, "Historians calculate that Babylon fell in early October of the year 539 B.C.E." "Let your Kingdom Come" p.136

*** re chap. 5 pp. 22-24 par. 3 John Beholds the Glorified Jesus ***

The major fulfillment of that prophecy started with the desolating of the kingdom of Judah, which is indicated by Bible evidence to have been completed by October 607 B.C.E. Revelation 12:6, 14 shows that 3 1/2 times amounts to 1,260 days; hence, seven times (twice that number) must be 2,520 days. Reckoning “a day for a year,” we arrive at 2,520 years as the duration of the “seven times.” (Ezekiel 4:6) Therefore, Christ Jesus began his heavenly rule in the latter part of 1914. The erupting of the first world war in that year marked “a beginning of pangs of distress” that have continued to plague mankind.

Not to be confused with number theory.

Numerology is any belief in divine, mystical or other special relationship between a number and some coinciding events. It has many systems and traditions and beliefs. Numerology and numerological divination by systems such as isopsephy were popular among early mathematicians, but are no longer considered part of mathematics and are regarded as pseudomathematics or pseudoscience by modern scientists. Today, numerology is often associated with the paranormal, alongside astrology and similar divinatory arts. [ 4 ]

ucantcomehome: it seems they were looking to 1914 and something big happened

Actually, those who watched world events knew a war would break out in a big way in Europe decades before it happened- not a matter of if, but when. Otto von Bismarck was one such person. Incidentally, CT Russell predicted nothing resembling the events that actually transpired in 1914.

    Last warning and prediction

In December 1897, Wilhelm II visited Bismarck for the last time. Bismarck again warned the Kaiser about the dangers of improvising government policy based on the intrigues of courtiers and militarists. Bismarck's last warning was:

Your Majesty, so long as you have this present officer corps, you can do as you please. But when this is no longer the case, it will be very different for you.

    Subsequently, Bismarck made this prediction:

"Jena came twenty years after the death of Frederick The Great; the crash will come twenty years after my departure if things go on like this" ― a prophecy fulfilled a little late when, twenty four years after his resignation as Chancellor, World War 1 began in August 1914.

"Europe today is a powder keg and the leaders are like men smoking in an arsenal ... A single spark will set off an explosion that will consume us all ... I cannot tell you when that explosion will occur, but I can tell you where ... Some damned foolish thing in the Balkans will set it off."

    --- Otto von Bismarck

    .

For years it was thought that the Balkans would be the epicenter of a European wide conflict ("those damned Balkans" as Bismarck called them). Foreign offices even figured how it was going to happen: the Germans would let the Austrians go unchecked and Russia would refuse to lose face by allowing it. When the Balkan Wars erupted in 1912, administrators held their breath, but the fact that they were contained to the Balkans was a source of optimism for the doomsday predictors (James Joll in "The Mood of 1914" makes a good case for this).

OP: according to jw littérature world war 1 was the beggining of the kingdom in 1914. But This war started in august. So what is the rationalisation for saying That the kingdom was specifically to Begin in october 1914? Not august, not september but october?

They don't get Oct 1914 from WWI; they get it from their chronology. They say that WWI was simply evidence that the Oct 1914 chronology was right. Supposedly Satan was cast out of heaven and down to earth after Oct 1914, and he was angry so he started stirring up trouble on earth.

The problem is, as is acknowledged in this thread, that WWI began before Oct 1914. I saw the problem in the early 80's and asked JWs about it. I was told that Satan started WWI before the birth of the kingdom in order to cause a distraction and divert attention away from the event here on earth.

That is, to me, absolutely, aseninely ludicrous. Suppose WWI had never started. Now what kind of attention would the birth of any heavenly kingdom have received here on earth? Who the hell would have had any clue that an invisible government had been instituted in heaven? Why would there have been a need for a diversion to distract attention? From what was attention being distracted?

Actually, supposing there is a Satan and a heavenly kingdom, what Satan did actually accomplished exactly the opposite of what JWs say he intended; he actually focused attention on the kingdom. He gave JWs the one thing in their history that most closely resembles a successful prediction. If their had been no WWI, I say JWs' credibillity would have been far lower. If there had been no WWI, nobody would have had the slightest hint that an invisible government had begun ruling in heaven.

So, if there is a Satan, and if he started WWI to divert attention away from the birth of an invisible heavenly government, then he's one big dumbass. He would have served his purpose better by just sitting back and doing nothing and watching JWs try to convince people that an invisible superpower had begun ruling in heaven. Instead, he gave them ammo that they still use to this day.
