Depends what you like.
I like history so Manchester, Chester, York all have great places to visit.
For scenery the Lake District and Wales are beautiful.
Maybe let people know what you like / want to see?
Southern England - here are some must see places in Hampshire, Dorest and Wiltshire.
Winchester the ancient capital of Wessex, Salisbury and Stonehenge, Portsmouth and Southampton for our maritime heritage. Some amazing countryside with the South Downs and New Forest. Also some of the best coastal scenery including the Jurassic coast.
You will also find the most awesome apostates living in this area.

Simon, I want to see everything, but obviously that's not going to happen. So I'm interested in what people who live there think are must sees. I'm reading a variety of travel books and of course I have had several spots on my personal list for years. Love history.

The Lake District - Wast Water : the bleak beauty is astounding, likewise the Yorkshire Dales and Peak District (Matlock in Derbyshire in particular)
if the weather's good, Cornwall is great, great coast and history (if the weather's bad it's a bit miserable)
lit you like a bit of history Hampton Court is a great day out. You can take a Thames trip to Hampton Court from London if you ve got the time
