The 2 witness rule

    They use the two witness rule to their liking. If a JW wife tells the elders that her husband confided to her that he committed adultery yet refuses to say that to the elders, the elders can decide to accept her word for it and she would put into writing that her husband was an adulterer and she could be scripturally

    free to remarry if she so desired. Only one person has come forward. There are no two witnesses, yet that is acceptable??? Yeah right!

    KateWild - "That is why so many paedophile JWs have been df'd and gone to prison across the globe."

    You're... being sarcastic, right?

    @Apognophos and JustVisiting...

    Taking into account the context, it seems to me that the so-called "two witness rule" - as applied Biblically - is about accusations of fraud, but has no application with regards to allegations of sexual assault...

    ...which suggests that it's a deliberate misapplication on the part of the WT leadership, in order to keep its dirtiest secret swept under the rug.

    Problem is, when you keep sweeping dirty secrets under the rug for literally decades, you can't help but end up with a big-ass bulge in the rug that doesn't go away.

    Lets not forget that the scripture of Deut applied during the Mosaic law. Back then Israel was a nation like any other today. This was their judicial law as a sovereign nation. Basically the priests acted as law enforcement. There is nothing in the bible that says that any faith can act as a sovereign nation today. In fact, it mostly points to the contrary. Therefore the WTBTS is overstepping its boundaries when it attemps to establish a judicial system within the congregations. We live under the law of the land as many scriptures point. If Jesus was not willing to condemn a known adulterer woman, then why do we have to do with establishing and enforcing law?

    Suppose when there is only one witness to the alleged abuse, the elders warn the rest of the congregation something like this :"Brothers and sisters, there has been an accusation of child molestation against one of the publishers. Please be extra vigilant with your children." No names are mentioned, so no chance of slander. Tell me what scripture in the Bible would forbid that.
