the owner of the company that I work for was talking to me today about his brother who chose a different line of business and makes more money than him. he seems to be upset about his choice of work.

but when when I look around this guys yard he has done very well for himself but apparantly not as well as his brother. im thinking he should be very thankful. I look around his place and see a motor home, boat, three nice newer vehicles 3 snowmobiles a very nice house. He was also telling me earlier they have a vacation property in Mexico.

It has to do with what people value, I guess.

    Successful

I think succesful people simply accept themselfs for who they are.

I always felt sorry for a rich lady i new. Why? Because she lived alone in a big house . Now i envy her. Why? Well its not the house....it's because she is able to live by herself in contentment.

My guess it has to do with ambition.

I'm not sure where ambition comes from.

    Maybe circumstance.

Someone who grew up with nothing might be ambitious to accumulate a lot of things.

While someone who grew up with a lot might just be happy to maintain.

I think it might be easier to describe how to become successful than to determine why some people try and some don't.

Probably the people that succeed and accumulate a lot have a written plan.

And those that dont, dont have a written plan.

But the question is why do some have a written plan

    and some do not?

I guess some just don't care.

    Some are content with less.

    Some are secure with less.

And some are insecure so they need a lot.

Also before they had all the designer diagnosises back in the 60's and 70's

if a person was greedy, jealous and unthankful, people would just say, "He is an axxhole".

hoser, only you know the TONE of the conversation, but

perhaps your boss was bragging by playing the 'humble card' for himself , but really showing that you- not only could not better him, but certainly not the combined prowess of his even better FAMILY.

i never looked at it that way. Maybe he was bragging. I'm not jealous in any way. we're doing ok even though we wasted the first 15-20 years of our working lives brainwashed . We're in catchup mode right now.

Vidiot : the one with the most toys when he dies wins but he still dies.

I have a lot of toys.

I stopped early to play with them.

I wont have the most toys when I die.

But I will have spent a lot of time playing with the toys that I have.

And If I see a toy I like I buy it.

But I ask myself, will I have time to play with it.

And when will I have time to play with it.

I have been retired now for 2 years.

And there are not enougb hours in a day.

I can not play with evrything I got in a way I want and as much as I want in any given day.

I doubt I will have time to do and play with all the things I have in the rest of my lifetime.
