Hi zev,
I just got back from an Alaskan cruise. We went on the Star Princess, new ship in the Princess line.
We went to the same ports.
Ketchikan is rainy...and dirty. Not too much going on there. We did a kayak (sp) "adventure"...it was hard. The ocean is much harder than the rivers I have been on.
Juneau was nice. We did a whale watching tour...out on a small boat and we saw a humpback whale and lots of eagles and sea lions. It rained in town, but outside of town the weather cleared.
We also did a mountain bike tour in Juneau. Those hills are big!! Unless you are determined to prove you can ride up and down hills for 4.5 hours, don't do it. It was beautiful, however, I was concentrating on keeping my bike moving, so I missed alot of the local flora and fauna. We did ride to Mendenhall glacier. Incredible.
Skagway was quaint. We did the train ride into the mountains. It was the first train in Alaska. (they give you a great history lesson) The town has lots of great shops for gifts and souveniers.
We landed in Seward and took the scenic train to Anchorage. We stayed in Anchorage for two days with the friends we went on the ship with. Lots of fun. My husband mapped out a "Pub Crawl" and we walked to every bar/pub we could over the two days. Lots of Alaskan beer...all brewed locally. Very friendly locals. They depend on the tourists now, so they are very friendly. The daylight is cool....it never got dark...it was twilight at night....the sun came up about 4:30 and set at about 11:30 pm. Way to hard to sleep.
The ship had lots of senior citizens. About 70% were over 65. I was not prepared for that. The Alaskan cruises are also popular with Asians. You will see many on the ship....about 1/3 to 1/2 of the ship was Asian. And geriatric.
Over all, it was great. Beautiful land.
I have lots of pics also. I took over 400! We can compare when you come back. I would love to hear your observations.
Have a safe trip and enjoy the glaciers.

Utopian Reformist:
Listen, I wanted to ask you about your parents. From what I remember, your folks are still active JW's correct?
no. inactive, they faded away. (god bless them)I know that Ed Brown would always mention your folks via e-mail exchanges with me in the past.Since Tonya's campaign kicked off and became public, I haven't received any e-mail from Ed Brown anymore and am wondering if he knows your position about the WTBS?
good question. i just dont know. ed doesnt strike me as the type to "shun".
he's like my parents, they don't shun anyone either. that i know for a fact, because i have seen them talk to disfellowshipped ones.i just don't know about ed though. maybe he's reading this and can send us an email and straighten us out huh?
so how do you know ed? or my parents? were you in the same congregations? you got my curiosity peeked ya know.
email me if your more comfy with that, and as always, i'll keep your confidence with whatever is told to me.
did your wife win the election? or has it not happened yet? i dont read or watch the news much, so i'm kinda clueless. and blonde
catch y'all when i return from the north pole. well, almost anyways.
