But now equations are totally upside down—with a Communist country replacing the South Kings as the World Power!?

China has debt loads and Russia has a falling rouble. That said, I believe their advantage lies in the alliances they are forming with BRICS and the EuroAsian Customs Union and SCO - where solid growth will at least be possible.

It looks like recession is coming back, globally.

Metatron, China's national debt is only $5 trillion, which is nicely balanced out by her foreign reserves, about $4 trillion. The US national debt is moving towards $18 trillion. Surprisingly, Japan's national debt of $13 trillion is the worst.

I once suggested that perhaps China will become the WT's "eighth king". They can maybe get one more world power out of their end-times predictions this way, which unfortunately could buy them a lot of time before everyone can see that their prophecies has unequivocally failed -- not until someone else rises up after China.

Chinese economy is really unknown and upredictable as there is a lot of internal, hidden problems. It is mixed of capitalism and communism where the debt level is hard to estimate, and much of the money is waisted on programs that do have not value for the economy. China due its size have a significant potential but it will not be able to postpone economic problem indefinitely. In 1980's I heard how Japan will rule the world, today it is said about China. USA debt is a major burden on American economy, but Japans and British debts are the biggest problems for industrial world.

China has overtaken (reminding us of tortoise and hare symbolism). No country can sustain a double-digit growth rate indefinitely. Yet China has done so for the past two decades -- a very long stretch by any standard.
