Yes, it sounds as if he is doing a lot of deep thinking. Take small steps.
I hope you may both be on the same page soon. My husband and I are out together. We were both "in" for over thirty years, and he was an elder for twenty of them.

I had thought my wife was waking up.....and I said some things....then she reverted back into the jw mindset so quickly with much anger and defensiveness....
