The date passed by already, so I will mention the silly rumor that was going around. This is freaking hilarious. The rumor is a gullibility joke where it is hoped that the reader fails to remember that this holiday observance is on the fixed date of October 31st. (Maybe it's even hoping for a bit of dyslexia on "13th" and "31st." The mention of "666 years" since the last occurrence of that phenomenon is a reference to the "Number of the beast" described in Revelation, and has no bearing whatsoever as the holiday observance is not nearly that old. It's just made up and thrown in there. of course the selection of Friday the 13th is a nod to the calendar date traditionally considered to be an especially unlucky one in western superstition.
The real kicks come from the fact that "Friday the 13th" is chosen as the object of the joke for it's association with superstition and being unlucky, but that in October 2014, there isn't even a Friday the 13th. It was a Monday.
I hope this helps anyone out there to think and think again before just accepting rumors or beliefs without taking at least a quick look at them.
Hilarious Rumor: Halloween falls on Friday the 13th for first time in 666 years.

A friend posted that on facebook. My response was "this year, even Friday the 13th doesn't fall on Friday the 13th."

Who ever started this rumor is dyslexic. But I do like the idea of microwaving my iPhone. The same trick works when trying to dry off your cat after it is bathed.

Well, you do know why the JWs don't celebrate Halloween don't you? They don't appreciate random people coming to their door.

Seriously, it's surprising how few people know that the Gregorian calendar repeats on a 400 year cycle (including days of the week). So all these Facebook/urban legend claims that "this awesome event (based solely on the calendar) occurs only once every 666 years" are obvious bunk.

Hey, wouldn't that make a clever costume? Dress a little boy in a polyester suit and tie, put the little girl in a dress and put JW.org badges on them. They could use their bookbag to collect the candy. When asked what they are supposed to be, they could belt out "We're Jehovah's Witnesses". (Do they still sing that one? It's been 30 years since I have been to the KH.)HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
