I agree with you, Mad Apostate
This does have me very concerned - especially from the optics side of things.
Maybe you can look into it for us. While your at it - look up how the Berry case, that you really are concerned about is going.

Yes..at least when the WTS gets crappy judgements they are very public
about it.
I don't know about, (or understand this optics thing) but what I do understand is that according to my knowledge of the legal system...this is not a bad thing.
The more courts this case goes through...the more people realise what in the h*** is going on in this org. IMHO, the more courts that handle this case, the better.
MikeMusto states:
Chances are you will hear a mentionMaybe it will be mentioned...then again, maybe not. (refer to beginning of post)
of the dimissal on Dateline. Not exactly adding credibility in the eyes of JW's to the case.
What I think is going to be the most damaging is J.R. Brown's own statement:
Watchtower spokesman J.R. Brown said the church has a strict policy about sex abuse and advises congregation leaders to follow state law about reporting abuse. If anyone has the drive to investigate things, you can find out that the state laws are totally inadequate when it comes to the rights of the victim. Only 16 states out of 50 here in the U.S. require the clergy to report. (Anyone wanting to know the stats, email me)
For the society to only go by state laws, IMO, totally negates God's laws.
Perhaps that is why JR brown is no longer making comments.
Frankly as a PR person- He sucks
No federal jurisdiction?
why?
if plaintiff and defendant are living in different states
AND
the claim is < than 75k$,
OR
she is complaining about the violation of a civil righ (FEDERAL CONSTITUTION VIOLATION)
AND
less than a year elapsed
OR she can justify why more than a year elapsed before complaining (did not know what to do or how to do it, mental state, BEING A MINOR etc.)
IF THE CASE MEETS ABOVE CRITERIA THE COURT IS WRONG AND YOU CAN GO TO TE COURT ABOVE, "THE FEDERAL CIRCUIT"
So If she sued only the local elders at the FEDERAL COURT it is a NO GO because she was living in the elder's state when it happened and most likely the was no violation of Federal Constitutional right, errr.
BUT she can take the case the case to local state court
I have about seven court cases going on at all level, no pro lawyers, they are a pain in the x most of the time. So i do it myself;
IT IS FUN.when you know what you are doing and pretend you dont..
During deposition is when you collect your killing data.
