Have I missed a previous posting on this? Sorry if this is old news.

Just heard from someone whose meeting is on a Tuesday evening; basically, £3 per publisher is to be levied to "replace" the KH insurance payment. The money will be used for damage, vandalism, & disasters, but also to protect any of the Societies' entities.

No levy is forced on anybody. But the annual insurance that the congregation pays for the damages you mention, is when divided on each baptised publisher so and so much. No forced payment, but an indication on how much the congregation pays per capita.

This money is paid to the Branch ? and then they honour any claim, it is hoped.

I would bet that a lot of things that would have been claimed for were Insurance done in the usaul way with a commercial company, do not get claimed for, the Cong feels guilty about any claim so absorbs it themselves, unless it is a huge claim of course.

It is still yet another way for the Org to make money.

Has anyone done a comparison on the price ? got quotes from proper companies ? I presume the £3 per Pub. is levied yearly ? If so, that is cheap, but I still say the Org is making £££ where it would not have without the scheme.

Is this only in the UK, or have there been ramblings of such in the US too?

In Canada they require the congregations to pay so much per publisher for an insurance policy, but when there is a claim they ask for donations from the congregations to cover the cost of the damages.

Been billing the self insurance allocation that way for years in the US. Cost per pub and the congregation forwards that amount.

As Doubing Bro says, this has been a loving arrangement for many years in the US. Thus, Cong funds (the amount to be paid is assessed on the number of publishers) will go to the Society and the Society, via the RBC, will make any repairs necessary. Of course, when there has been storm damage or repairs needed in the past, the Cong is asked to pay for it out-of-pocket with local contributions (if at all possible) thus sparing dedicated funds that can be used to further the preaching work.

" thus sparing dedicated funds that can be used to............." DOC, the last four words that I did not put in are of course what JW's are told.

The reality is those funds go we know not where, but unlikely they are used for funding any preaching, which is all virtally self-funded anyway.

The letter states that the money will also be used "to protect any of the Societies entities."

This was never stated before, was it?

That's likely the money that goes toward paying out claims to pedophile vicitms.
