That takes me back.

We deplore the lack of empathy shown by Witnesses when the pedophile issue is raise. Yet at times we seem to lack empathy when we earnestly confront the Witnesses with some pretty heavy stuff about their governing body and cherished beliefs. What's that old saying? "Be the change you want in others". You want empathy? Model it.

Empathy would lead us to raise the topic in a considerate way, acknowledging to the Witnesses it may be extremely hard and confusing for them to read or hear about the pedophile issue and toning down our language from accusation to "wondering".

Sometimes, if you express yourself in a more understanding manner it increases the likelihood that the Witnesses will not feel personally "got at" and reduce their need to have an answer (at least right then). I know it may not always be effective - but I have to wonder about people who deluge Witnesses with a lot of pretty serious stuff and then question the Witnesses' negative or indifferent reactions.

If you just want to blast their beliefs and self-respect out of the water, fine. But if you are just hoping that your communication is a little bit more effective and helpful to opening their eyes, give some careful thought about how you are "presenting' the information to them. Surely, given what we ourselves have been through, empathy shown is often empathy received.

Redvip2000 said that they think it is all 'lies and part of Satan's media and should not be believed. If the media told of something catastrophic, they would say it is a sign that the end is near. They believe Satan's media when it backs up or appears to back up their cause.

Just a sidelie, I haven't heard anything about peace and security for a while. It used to be a much talked about thing among the Jdubs.

That's cool joe. My comments weren't directed at anyone.

I reflected that, at times when we note the listener's lack of expressed empathy, are we understanding of what that empathy-deficit could be about other than negative things about them. It is incredibly hard for people in general to hear negative stuff about their beliefs, especially when it appears so serious; it can be very hard to take it in. Sure, the Witnesses do not help by the way they expect others to listen to them. But standing back and trying to empathize with their difficulties in empathizing (!) might suggest ways we could talk that would help them be less defended and better able to just "hear" what is being said.

Welcome to this site from a fellow Aussie , noticing you were a newbie and from the land of OZ , I looked back at your previous posts , the one about your mother brought tears to my eyes , so typical. Its all about show , image , and being seen to do the right thing. ( without actually doing it )
