My 88 Year Old Mom Is Going To Special Meeting Today And Shouldn't!

My mom only goes out for doctor's visits. They are "encouraging" her to spend three hours to hear the annual meeting at the KH. She is on oxygen and can barely move. I hate this cult.

It's a bit of an odd thing. They want as many to hear the program "live" as possible. They're packing assembly halls and KHs for the live program. Even my uber-JW wife is curious about this action. Makes her think they're going to announce something big. I haven't said anything to her about the rumor on this site about an announcement that will "test your faith". Personally, I think it will be much ado about nothing.

Wasn't the annual meeting last month? Whatever meeting it is, they should bring the meeting to her, not the other way around...

Lately, these meetings are supposed to give some new lite and you only get to fully understand things when the Watchtower comes out.

You are right. Whatever meeting it is, she said the GB is supposed to speak and it is a big deal.

Special meeting, special meeting ... that's what has been coming from my wife's mouth the past couple of days, everything today is planned for and around this "special meeting" ... I want to ask, "what's so special about it" ... but I keep my mouth shut.

my theory on why they insist on attending in person is this: if you are not at a meeting in person your reactions can not be observed during a talk being given. All the self righteous spies are watching everyone seated there to try to read minds and determine the level of everyones' gullibility. Additionally, if you're not there you can't feel approved of or disapproved of; you can't see the expressions on the elders' faces as they either beam at you or frown at you or even shake their heads at you.

Physical presence is mandatory to keep mind control effective. That's why they harp continuously at meetings that if you miss meetings you won't have Holy Spirit - meaning, they lose control of your thinking process.

The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society is a CULT and it is bad.

My child is begging me to go so I can plead to my husband to take us home after 30 minutes because of my medical situation so she doesn't have to sit through it all. Lol. Clearly she is looking forward to this special event.

I haven't attended a kh anything since june...no gatherings or anything. Some think it is my medical stuff ( i have another surgery coming up, too.) But there are some who know of my questioning and that I stopped going after that. So, ya I'm not going.

I think it is despicable that they are pressuring your sick elderly mother to attend. They just have no sense doing this.

Of course. If she doesn't attend this special meeting, she will feel guilty and believe she is letting jehovah God down.

Shoot. I am going to go, too. My kid talked me into it saying if she has to sit through this crap she wants to at least have me there with her so she doesn't feel alone. Blech.
