I think most of the changes to the Witness religion recently are about money and lawsuits. Of course, it does look like they lowered their standards or sold out. I remember when they said the Internet was "demonized" not too long ago.
I think it's about their surviving in a changing world and they will do what is necessary and call it "new light". Only the very gullible and hard-core older people will stick with it while many others head for the door.

The problem is when the faithful hear something at the Kingdom Hall they believe it as if was from god. So anything can be said and the zombies will comply. This means the ones leaving are the ones on the fringe and the young. The cult will go down but ever so slowly.
The good news is they keep putting their foots in their mouths helping to wake up more people Also the numbers of old JWs that are going back seam to be falling way off. Once your out, faded or dfd it's easier to see the problems with the cult or get online to do research. People just aren't going back like they used to.

There is no one lowering of standards, the rules are by the hundreds, the peer pressure to preform causes some to have nervous breakdowns. This religion invented guilt. It's is purely a performance based company with religious clothing. If you think the JWs had rules the high priest farms of bethel controlled every living minute , few hundred sexual creatures confined to not getting caught masterbating. Tony tight pants is in charge of dress code.

The reason the WTS is declining is that it was originally founded upon lies, deceptions and corruption in its operation as a publishing/house organization.
The notable exploitation and manipulation of its devoted members is another reason people are starting to Awaken
